First of all I have to say how much I love how active this board is, I didn't get a chance to come on the internet yesterday so I come here today and WOW!!! I will admit I was surprised.
Yesterday was hard for my anxiety wise. I felt very anxious going out with my older brother shopping. I will admit I am not usually that anxious going out anymore. But yesterday was a bit more then what I am used to. I swear from the second I stepped in his van to the moment I got back home, I barely breathed. I tried the breathing and thinking of "light" things. I just had alot of trouble shaking that feeling of my heart racing and my throat being all tight.
I am not sure if it was the going out, or going out with Eric that caused my anxiety. Mom said I should try and not focus too much on the why and just deal with the anxiety. I know I am supposed to do that, I guess it's hard to when you don't know why!
When I got home I felt really tired, so I stayed on stayed on the couch and read. I am lucky I did this because I was able to hear some weird noises from my guinea pig and could take him to the vet. He may have a respitory problem, or it may be him having a piece of hay stuck, but if it is some kind of virus, he his to be kept in my room away from his buddy and I have to give him medicine. Wow it is HARD to give a guinea pig medicine! I am also giving another one of our animals (cat) medicine because she is old and got some kind of absess on her butt. Sometimes I feel like a turkey with no head.
Until I can see my dr, I have been taking gravol at night to help me with falling asleep. I know its not the best thing to do for long term, but its for the next few day until I can see her. At night I put on relaxing nature sounds, don't watch tv, and read. When its lights out I turn on my other cd, and that one kind of guides you to sleep. I had to do that one twice last night. Its kind of weird though, I swear I get anxious at the idea of sleep.
I know an older ladie, ans she mentioned taking me to see a dr to one of the bigger cities, and I think it may be a good idea.
Well I am gonna go now, check what other people have posted and see if I can help in any way.
Happy New Years!!!!!

Hi,

Sounds like you really held it together for the shopping trip. Great job coping!

We got DD a guinea pig for Easter last year & "Chocolate" is doing great. Of course, I ended up as chief guinea pig pen cleaner & water bottle filler. (as I expected. LOL) They are cute little guys...Chocolate was a bit shy at first, but wheeks for fresh greens & attention now. DD loves to hold her.

A Happy New Year to you too. :)

Yes, this board is active. I really enjoy the friends and support I've found here.

Smiles,
Dee

Hi You sure do have a lot going on with your
animals!! As for anxiety with your brother--- you never know
that is one of the toughest things about panic or anxiety
you NEVER know when it will SHOW IT"S UGLY HEAD!
You did it you went shopping and did not let it stop you!!
GOOD JOB!!
As for sleeping well that is tough--- it is when most people
look forward to relaxing and going to sleep to get rest!!
SOME OF US have a hard time putting our minds to rest or relax!!
FOR US IT IS anxiety producting until you find a way to relax--
I use my hypnosis tapes to relax and fall asleep. Calming music
is another good idea. When listeing to the music think of whatever
or who ever makes you feel safe and comforted... HAPPY NEW YEAR! Judy

Our guinea pig's name was Nestle;) What is it with chocolate & pigs??? Anyhoo, she passed away @ a very old age. Much older than what the books said. She lived a good life & was a joy to have around. About 2 weeks ago I read an article in the newspaper that GP's make the best pets for kids. You can actually sleep with them beside your bed & not be kept awake by that blasted wheel! Oh, yeah! We had hamsters, too): jan

I agree with your mom. We can become consumed with the *why* of our anxiety. There are no easy answers. It's so much better to deal with what is happening *here & now.*

As I recall, you don't have a therapist. Right? Just a worker you are seeing @ school? Sorry but my brain is on leave again): Anyhoo, going out of town to see a specialist or to seek therapy may be a very good idea. I live in a rural area & we don't have access to specialists, unless we leave town. Think it over. Ask your mom's advice. I am happy that this older lady has offered to take you. That's great you have other support. Let us know what you decide. (((hugs))) jan

Hey jan, my piggies names are Archie and Ziggy. Archie I got at a pet store, he was soooo small. I hated seeing him there because he looked too young to be away from his momma. Now he is 2 years old and as fiesty as can be, he also has one heck of a voice and he is mulit colored with lots of rosets. Ziggy I got when he was a year and a half at the SPCA, he had been dumped on there doorstep. Took alot to get him where he is now, but I wouldn't trade him. He rarely talks so its even more special when you hear him, and he had really long black hair.
Sounds silly to some, but I love my animals, they are what I have used as one of my coping tecniques and I feel like I owe it to them to take them to the vet.
Happy new years

I have a sexual abuse therapist at child and youth mental health, and a case worker there since no one is willing to offer there support since I am of age. Because I have been in crisis since my mom got sick it wasn't the best move to send me to adult yet. I don't know what would be best.
I am going to be seeing that older lady on wednesday, she will be helping me fill out forms so I can get my disability. I have been doing alot of research on on anxiety, depression, SAD and you'd be surprised at what kind of info they have, but I am always carefull to go to the actual sites. Not the ones where crazies are.

Thanks :)

I just gave Chocolate some timothy hay and she just loves it. She pulls it all out of the feeder and burrows in it while she eats it. LOL

Pets are a great source of comfort to us. I am glad that you have them & treat them so well. That tells alot about a person. You are most certainly a good person in my book;) Our Nestle was quite the talker. She would squeal with delight when she heard the fridge open. If noone paid any attention to her, she would bite her cage & shake it like she was mad. I used to allow her free range in the living room. She was into exploration. The cats would stay in the dining room & watch her travels through the french doors. 3 tails would swish, hitting the floor with whacking sounds. Not happy campers:) My girls are grown up now, so I will have to wait for grandkids. I'll have me another pig then. LOL (((hugs))) jan
