Need advice...going off of Zoloft

Okay, I am really trying to go off the Zoloft here. Mostly because my husband and I would like to have a baby in the next year and I would like to be drug free while I am pregnant. I went to my doctor (my prescribing doc took a job as health director of the college nearby so I had to see my other doctor) and had him give me a prescription for 1 month at 25 mg (I was doing 50 mg). So far, I feel totally nuts. I try to take the pill every other day to see how I do and by the second day, I am getting these feelings of dizziness and I feel like I am being "zapped" sort of every so often. Sorry, I am not sure how else to describe it. It happens when I move to quickly or try to do things around the house. I almost want to say screw it and go back to the 50 mg and stay on it, but I want to at least try and of anything maybe stay on a lower dose.

I am wondering who has successfully weaned themselves off their prescriptions and exactly how did you do it and how did it make you feel at the time. Also, how long till you felt okay without it? I am currently not seeing a therapist and I stopped seeing the counselor I was going to because I didn't feel like it was doing anything but drain my checking account! lol I am thinking of seeing someone but for now, I am reading the anxiety and phobia workbook to see if anything there will help me.

Well, thanks for any help or advice you can offer! Hope everyone has a great New Year's Eve!

Hi, Jessica! I have gone off antidepressants & only had trouble with effexor. I had flu-like symptoms, some *zapping* type electrical shock feelings in my head & arms. Also, I cried alot. I followed the doctor's instructions to the letter. I dropped a pill every 3 days. I was totally off the meds in about 2 weeks. The physical symptoms just disappeared. I did cry more easily & readily for about 6 weeks, but that might just be me & not the effexor @ all.

What did your dr. say? What discontinuation schedule did he put you on? Have you told him how you are feeling? You need to report this so you can get professional guidance.

I wish you good luck with the meds & getting pregnant. Have a very Happy New Year! (((hugs))) jan
