Tired of Being Nervous and Anxious

Hello All,
I am the mombear and I have had problems with nerves/anxiety all my life. I absolutely hate it and wish with all my heart to be "normal" like others I see. A lot of the time I am fine and have no problems but when things are not going quite right I turn into a mass of anxiety/nerves. Stomach cramps, diarrhea, not eating, flat affect, etc. Right now I have started a new job one month ago. I had no one to train me as the girl who was the other worker went into the hospital so I basically had to train myself and naturally I have made some mistakes. The manager of the dept is very nasty and does not seem to be very understanding even though he has stated himself he knows nothing about the position I have and what is done. I made another mistake last week and now I'm obsessing over going back to work tomorrow and listening to him tell me how dumb I am. Not in so many words but you know what I mean. What makes it worse is I work for doctors and though they are nice, if I make a mistake they run right to him and squeal. I have done everything they have asked of me and more. Am I wrong to think it's normal to make mistakes on a new job especially when I've really had no training. Can somebody just give me some encouragement or a big e-mail hug. I would really appreciate any input.

Thanks for reading and Happy New Year.

Hi Mombear,

Yes I think everyone makes mistakes, especially in a new job with inadequate training. It must be hard to grin & bear it until you're used to the job, but hopefully once you settle in your boss will back off. (doesn't sound like a very good manager) I think the medical fields are very stressful all around & maybe you are taking the heat for the others general stress.

Hang in there & I hope it gets better for you. Sounds like you are coping well.

And good to "meet" you, hope you come back & talk whenever you need too; this is a great group here. ;)

Hugs,
Dee

Thanks so much ladies. I will continue to keep coming here. At least I get answered on this board. Every other board seems to either skip my post or not respond. Thanks so much for answering I will let you know how it turns out when I go back to work tomorrow.

((((Hugs))))) to you both.

imageHi, mombear! Nice to see you;) We had someone post with your handle a few years ago. Was that you? If so, we're glad you came back. If not, be kind to an *oldtimer's victim.* LOL We're still glad to have you!

I am sorry to hear about your anxiety. Of course the stress of a new job can be anxiety provoking. Mistakes happen whether you're new, old, trained or untrained. It's human to err. To forgive is divine. Can you forgive yourself & let it go? I know that's much easier said than done. Having OCD, my thoughts can become very obssessive @ times. I have worked hard to accept them as part of me, but not allow them to be my master. We are all more than our thoughts & our anxiety.

When work's bad it just kind of spills over into the rest of your life. I'm sorry you're going through this. I just try and tell myself that some of those people who make my life so miserable at work sometimes must have really miserable lives themselves to treat other people so badly...

Dear Mombear22,

Everyone makes mistakes, we are only human, don't let other people drag you down. Just take a deep breathe and look at it from another perspective. From my experiences you always think of the worst and it never really turns out to be that bad, on reflection I wonder why I even worried and got into a panic at all. I do understand and it still happens to me, just try to rise above it.

All the best x

Hi,

Thank you all so much for your great and insightful advice. I did not hear anything about my mistake but I have corrected it. I think these guys were used to having this one woman (who was in the hospital)run everything so smoothly and then when I came along, they expected me to just slip right in and do the same exact thing with no training at all. I'm not stupid, but when different people tell you different things, or do not make themselves clear, it's a little difficult to do a good job. I need to improve my organizational skills. If that means post its all over the place, so be it. If you have any idea on that I'd be grateful. Also how do I get to that tips and tricks folder.

Thanks again for all your help and friendship. I could use a good e-mail pal, any takers?
