Hi! I am sorry to hear what is going on. It must be very tough for you to cope. Ultimately, your bf is responsible for maintaining his own wellness. You cannot do it for him. That can be very frustrating.
As for his symptoms, lexapro does NOT cause depression. When first started, it can cause drowsiness. That generally passes in a week to 10 days. To the best of my knowledge it doesn't cause people to lose their motivation & focus. We have many folks on our board taking lexapro with great success. Of course all meds effect each person differently. These concerns about the meds should be directed to the prescribing physician or a pharmacist. We have a good Antidepressant Meds board where others may be able to relate to what you have posted. Here's the link: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/listsf.asp?webtag=iv-bhpaxil&nav=start
IMHO from reading & personal experience, your bf's med is not working. What you describe COULD be depression that the lexapro is unable to cover. All of us have dealt with different meds & increases in dosages until we found one that helped our anxiety disorder. Speaking as a nurse, your bf may need to see a medical dr. to rule out conditions that
Welcome! I agree with the others who said that this is something your bf has to work out himself. However it is great that you care and support him emotionally. I'm sure that means alot.
The longer he remains unemployed though, the harder it becomes to find a job. Maybe he could start with some kind of volunteer work to get his oar back in and out of the house? Something like that could lead to landing another job too...as an attorney, I'll bet there would be many opportunities for that.

Thanks both of you for your responses :).
We talked on Friday, and I brought up my concerns about the medication. He thinks that the side effects have been intensified
Hi Erica, It sounds like he's taking the steps that he needs to in order to move forward!
