Weird dream last night - analyze anyone

I had a dream that I was walking around 3:00 a.m. in a section of town in the next town over. I was walking a dog. It didn’t seem like we were out for a quickie middle of the night walk (for the dog) but walking as if we had to be outside. I was nervous because it is not the best part of town to be in at 3:00 a.m. and it was fairly deserted. There was a big parking lot where most of the bar patrons normally park (it’s a big restaurant/bar area) but since it was after the bars close there were only a handful of cars and people just hanging out, I guess they were heading home.

In the parking lot there was a big dog, maybe a pittbull or rottweiller, who was barking and possibly attacking someone or defending his owner. A drug deal going down???

The name of the dog I was walking was Buddy. I don’t own a dog. Anyway, Buddy starting to run a little in the direction of the barking dog. I yanked him away and we continued on our walk. I don’t know where we were going. We shouldn’t have been walking there to begin with. I sort of told myself to stay calm and try to just blend into the background. I also sort of knew it was just a dream. I didn’t get attacked or anything and then I just woke up.

I’m thinking this could have symbolized a few things.

1 – I’m my own best friend. Buddy symbolized that friend?
2 – Everything will be okay in life (I started having panic attacks in Sept. and now I’m on Celexa, I might be in peri-menopause.)
3 – I have a number of friends and Buddy represented them??
4 – Life is a journey (the walk) that can be scary at times but just charge ahead and be brave.

What do you think? Any other dream analysts here? Thanks for any feedback.

Bennie

No analyst here, Bennie. Sorry): I do know from reading that these jumbled, confusing dreams that make little sense to us are definitely how we work out our daytime problems. Is something troubling you? Are you afraid of something that has happened or will happen or as all anxiety sufferers can relate to, *might* happen?

Hi Bennie,

It's kind of neat when you remember that much detail from a dream, although your dream seemed to to have a real undercurrant of anxiety to it...so maybe not so pleasant to remember.

I'm not a great dream analyst, but I have read that dreams may be the way that we mentally process and work through events and emotionals from the day. If you have been feeling anxious about changes or as you mentioned, just going through life, maybe this was a way of processing that anxiety and getting the mental "message" that if you keep going and work through it, things will be alright.

Okay I had a dream earlier this week, where I was having a deep philosophical discussion with House (the doctor character from tv). I remember feeling like we were on the verge of great new revelations about the meaning of life and other weighty issues, when I was woken up in the morning. (I felt really awful, tired & almost sick being woken out of REM too. Ugh)

So I wonder what that was about eh? ;)

Smiles,
Dee

Thank you for replying. A number of people have given some interesting interpretations. All are possibilities but since it all revolves around my psyche we’ll never truly know what it all means. I think it’s fun trying to unravel dreams.

I'm not sure what your dream symbolized. It's funny what can trip an idea in our heads for dreams. Did you watch House that night on TV? Were you having any similar discussions with friends over the past week? It almost sounds like a conversation he would have with someone. Was he his usual sarcastic self? I know what you mean about waking up during a deep sleep or crazy dream. I've literally thought someone was in my bedreoom becuase I woke up in the middle of a dream.

Some weeks ago my upstairs neighbor and I were woken up by our neighbors next door. Our walls touch and our bathrooms are back-to-back. We live in a condo. Anyway, our neighbors are brothers who are both mentally disabled. One is slow but the other is mentally retarded although I'm sure that term is politically incorrect these days. The slower of the brothers starting literally crying or sobbing in the middle of the night and this went on and off for a few nights and weeks. I had a dream that he broke into my place and left a bag of clothes, like for Good Will. I seriously sat up in bed and thought he broke through the bedroom fire door exit. We have adjoining hallways for the fire exit. Somtimes my dreams are just too realistic.

Have a great weekend.

I agree that sometimes certain foods can trigger weird thoughts in our dreams. I don't remember what I had for dinner that night or earlier in the day. Food from 3-4 days ago is a blur at this point unless it was something spectacular like a choclate soufle' or some chocolate molten cake. :)

I’ll go to the dreams board and see what they think.

Have a great weekend.

I found a great site about dream interpretation, I think you could find pretty much ANYTHING on this site and what the dreams mean. Here is what I found about dreaming about dogs....

To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within yourself. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts.

To dream that a dog bites your on the leg, suggests that you have lost your ability to balance aspects of your life. You may be hesitant in approaching a new situation or have no desire to move forward with your goals.

To see a happily barking dog in your dream, symbolizes pleasures and much social activity. If the dog is barking ferociously, then it represents your habit of making demands on people and controlling situations around you. It could also mean unfriendly companions.

To dream that you are buying a dog, indicates your tendency to buy your friends or buy compliments/favors. Alternatively, it suggest a need for you to find companionship.

To dream that you are dressing up your dog, signifies your attempts to cover up your own character flaws and habits.
