I have been on Effoxer,Lexapro, Zoloft,Klonopin, Prozac,Paxil- you name it!! Anyways, my pdoc is suggesting giving me tranquilizers to calm me down. Just take thses w/ no other meds. I suffer from anxiety/panic attacks & basicaly get "worked up" over little things. Nervous about driving, shopping, speaking in front of people. I'm just a over anxious person!!
Any advice would be great!!

I am not sure what you mean by tranquilizers, Michelle. Many on this board have used benzodiazepines(klonopin, xanax, ativan, valium) on an *as needed* basis or short term until the antidepressants began to work. They do have the possibility of addiction & are not recommended for use past 1 year.

I see you have already used the klonopin & many of the antidepressants. What did your dr. have in mind? I have taken xanax & klonopin on a short term basis in the past, until I regained my balance.

Meds, no matter what kind, will never take away the anxiety completely. Learning to cope with the anxiety is what most foks aim for. Meds are just one of many tools. Good luck! (((hugs))) jan

Hi,
My best advice is to be careful. I know with medications like these (as needed) they tend to make a person dependant on them. I am speaking from experience here. I know tranquilizers sound lovely, but I believe that in the long run they may screw you up because your not learning how to deal with the anxiety. BUT if you do have a plan set in place i.e. consellor, support, then I guess you could go for it.
Like I said, just be careful.

I have taken Xanax, and now I take Klonopin. I also take an antidepressant (Lexapro).

I started off by taken just Xanax at night, and I found after a week that I was very depressed when I woke up in the morning. I ended up needing to go on an antidepressant.

Is he suggesting you take them every day or just as-needed?
