Hi, I'm another new one here as well....I'm 43 years old mother of 3(2 girls, 1 boy) and a grandson.....I've always heard about this place but never took the time to check it out till now...I suffer from anxiety/depression... was previously on Effexor for the last 14 years and the sexual side effect was taking its toll on my marriage, so I changed to Wellbutrin and been on it for 6 months and it was ok at first but not anymore....It seems to have gotten worse instead of better so I asked my doc to see what could be done(have an appointment this wednesday)....I can only imagine what some people are probably wondering why someone would be on meds for so long...My previous doctor (for 12 years) prescribed it for me due to he said that I also suffer from extreme pms...I'm also a recovering alcoholic/bulemic of 14 1/2 years~~~

Welcome! It's nice to see you;) You will have to let us know where you heard about our little hole in the wall. LOL

Right from the get-go, please stop thinking that anyone is judging you, gf. There are many folks on this board who have been on meds long term. I am having a good respite from anxiety/depression. But, I am 54 years old & have had panic attacks since I was 17. I have been on meds & am enjoying life without them. But... I KNOW that @ anytime, my chemical imbalance may flare up & meds will be in my future. If it was necessary to take them for life, then I would do it. Why suffer needlessly?

As for the effexor, it was the last med I was on & it was great for the anxiety, but I did have trouble achieving orgasm. Wellbutrin doesn't get alot of press on this board because it has been known to cause more anxiety, than it covers. However, all meds affect each of us differently. Please let us know what the dr. says. There are options out there & even cocktails of more than one med is being used. Is this a psychiatrist? They are very skilled @ the cocktails.

Have you sought therapy or tried alternatives? We have the *coping tips & tricks* folder below where you can learn new ways to de-stress, relax & generally improve your mental health. I use the belly breathing, daily meditation & relaxation techniques. They take practice even when you're feeling good, so they become second nature when anxiety strikes.

Please don't be a stranger. Post anytime with questions or concerns. Check out our chats(also world famous;) on Tues. & Thurs. evenings. We care about you & want you to feel better. You are NOT alone. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

I wuz just looking through the message board forums and this one caught my eye....I've never been told about the relaxation techniques(might have to look into that) I've been told by my daughters' counselor for some time now that he feels that I need to have some counseling myself(When I first sobered up, I was in counseling and went to meetings)I keep putting it off, but I think it's time to go back...Thanks for the input!!
