I don't know how bad i suffer from anxiety. I know i find it hard to walk into busy shops and be infront of a lot of people. I got perscribed xanax fairly easily and pacsil. i tool pacsil once at the same time as xanax and felt awful (i dont think i was meant to do this) the xanax kind of helped but made me so tired it was not worth it. is this normal, do you get over this?

Welcome! I am sorry to hear that you have anxiety. Many of us have struggled getting out of our homes, shopping, travelling, driving etc. You are NOT alone.

If your meds were prescribed together, they can be taken safely together. Alot of us on this board take an antidepressant & an anti-anxiety med together. If you are still concerned, please call your dr. or pharmacist. The paxil needs to be taken every day as prescribed. It will take 4 to 6 weeks to reach optimal effect. The xanax is to be taken as ordered or as needed. however it was prescribed. It will relax you. The first few days it MAY relax you more than what you're accustomed to. In fact, you might even feel sleepy & need to nap. That is normal & will pass as soon as you get adjusted. If it feels like the xanax is too strong, call your dr. & ask if you can try just half a pill. It will work for 4 to 6 hours. I took it in the past, but only when I had a panic attack or when I had to do something, like go to an appointment where I knew my anxiety would be high. It will help you get back into your daily life until the paxil kicks in. It is a very good medication for people with anxiety disorders.

Please

Thankyou so much. i feel so welcome here now.
Iv sort of lost my medication! i just hated it so much, it made me feel awful. The xanax helped but sometimes it didnt, but i guess i didnt give it time to set in. Thankyou for the advice i think i might try again with the medication. i dont feel i have panic attacks but i just feel the people are hating me constantly. i work at a doctors office and sometimes when patients come in i find it hard to greet them sometimes. Everyone sees me as a social butterfly, life of the party but inside its so different!

Hi,

I don't know much about meds, but this is a great board for support, lots of friendly ladies and a few guys. Welcome, I hope someone can help you with some advice. I would really check with your doctor though about combining the meds.

Hugs,
Dee

You did not give the strength of the Xanax you have.
BUT! I have been getting Xanax .025 for the past 11-12 years.

Used to take one a day; then did not take any-you know the routine, start feeling better and stop taking the meds or feeling ashamed for taking them.

Anyhoo-what I do now is break one in half like in the morning; depending on my anxiety level I may take the other half later in the day or at night so my mind will "turn off."

It can make you sleepy until you build up a tolerance. I gave up on anti-depressants because of side affects.

The Xanax just seems to take off the "edge" and everything is not so scary.

Let me know how you are doing with it. Try taking 1/2 and 1/2.

God Bless,
Fran
