Anyone ever have this happen?

I've been doing a lot of reading on depression and anxiety lately because I haven't felt well.

I have tried several antidepressants over the years but the side effects are just not worth it to me.
Low doses of Xanax(I cut .025 in half so I won't get sleepy) help me with the anxiety.
Have just kind of accepted the depression and try to make myself real busy when it gets super bad.
I did try Effexor once. This is the one where you start out with a low dose then build up, right? Anyway, I was in la la land. My husband was talking to me in the car and I kept looking at him saying "what?" (Even without being drugged I do tend to block him out because he goes on and on about nothing).
However, with the Effexor I really could not connect with anything was saying, was not sure I was really there, etc. etc. He has seen me on other meds before and NEVER tells me what to do, but said "I don't know what kind of $@?# you are on, but stop taking it and throw it away, you are messed up bad"
Do not know if this helps, but I hope so. It does take alot of research to find the right meds. I know people that have tried about 15 high blood pressure medications before finding the one that works; same thing with blood thinners.
Best of luck and post your progress on the board!
Have a beautiful week,
Fran
Hi -
I had the same thing happen to me except it was with Wellbutrin~
I started seeing a therapist who did diagnose me as bipolar II
over 20 years but yesterday I got relaly stressed out and had
depresonalization!! I HATE IT!! It did go away but while going through
it I was so scared. If I am going through major stress this sometimes
happens to me- it last a few hours with me.
I hope that you find the right med for you!! Paxil just worked so well
for me I never questioned it!! Take care! Judy
Hi! If you use the advanced search you will find that the feelings of unreality happen with people experiencing anxiety/panic disorders. I have had it for as long as I have had panic attacks & that's 36+ years. It happens regardless of what meds anyone is on from hundreds of posters to the board. For me, it is the hardest part of coping & getting through an attack. It throws me for a loop.
I don't know about the bipolar aspect you are speaking of. My dd is bipolar & has the classic symptoms of very highs & very lows. She's a risk taker & self medicates with illegal drugs. She's supposed to take geodon & trazadone. When she does, her episodes are very much controlled.
Please let us know what your dr. or *t* has to say about your findings. It would be interesting to hear if the effexor is the wrong med for you. It was one of the best I used for panic disorder. GL & GBU! (((hugs))) jan
Hi dharma, yes this has happened to me & to many of the other members of the board.
