Heart Palpitations Anyone?

Hi Everyone,
Anyone else have heart palpitations? The scare the pants off me every time. I HATE them. I have been to a doctor and "know" there is nothing to worry about. That does not help me when I am having them, though. It can be instant anxiety for me.

Thanks!

:)

Thanks for the welcome. It is so good to find a place for support.

My anxiety is related to my being a hypochondriac. I have made some progress and am seeing a therapist now. I, too, notice palpitations when i don't get enough sleep. I do hope I can learn to live with them and ease my anxiety some. Also notice them sometimes when I exercise or carry something heavy. I live in fear as to when the next one will come. Ugh. I am eager to read up on the belly breathing that some were talking about earlier. The Anxiety and Phobia workbook has helped a lot too. I certainly don't wish palps on anyone else, but it is good to know I am not alone :)

Oh gosh! I have them all the time! I have been on this board several times thinking I was dying. It could be caffine (I cant have any caffine) or just signs of anxiety. See a Dr and rule anything out but it comes with having anxiety! I know how you feel.

Hey Laura...I have heart palpitations quite frequently and they are due to anxiety but also can be a sign of hypoglycemia...do you have that or have you been checked? alot of drs kind of brush off hypo unless your blood sugar falls below a certain point, but if you are hungry alot, have the heart palpitations, and get anxious and shaky if you don't eat at a certain time could mean you are hypoglycemic, and the hypo can also cause anxiety attacks as well if you don't eat enough...i am hypoglycemic which totally sucks along with the other anxiety plus alot of my anxiety is about food and eating anyway so its a battle...but they are common and I know they are scary because i was freaked out for over two years before I went to the doctor and nothing was wrong with my heart, so that is when i looked into the whole blood sugar thing instead...but keep me posted!!!

hi Everyone!

Wow!! Thanks so much for all of your posts. I feel so much better about it. I really thought I was alone with the palpitations. Mine actually come after eating a high carb meal.

Thanks again, this really helps.

Oh my God I am glad I'm not the only one.

I am 26 years old and started getting really bad palpitations over a week ago, combined with some muscle tension around my heart area. I know it's all about stress. You see, I'm getting married in three months and in the middle of purchasing a townhouse with my fiancee. I haven't lived away from home much, and I think the change in life is what is getting me the most. I love my fiancee very much and can't wait to marry him, but the doctor says even good stress can get you going.

I did go to the ER and got an EKG done along with blood work, a chest xray and a urine test (probably for drugs that I'm not on). But everything is clear. I know I have to learn to calm down, but it's hard. Let me know how you are doing and maybe we could get in touch and share our stories.

Hi Laura...I get a pain in my chest...it is like you have to keep on rubbing it....it is a chest wall muscle that acts up due to stress....I get accupuncture for stress and that clears it up usually within a few treatments....you should look into it....it is my sanity....good luck....

Oh yes, I have and they are quite unsettling to say the least. One thing I am learning about myself is that when I start to have a feeling that I don't want, I get fearful about the feeling. The fear attracks more fear and before you know it, I am in a place I'd rather not be in. I am trying to: 1) FEEL the feeling -- don't examine it or compare it with a fear you've had before, 2) ACCEPT it -- move on to 3) FLOAT over the feeling, as if you are a cloud observing yourself, and 4) WAIT for some time to pass, without judgment and re-examination of the initial fear. The less attention we give those feelings of fear, the sooner they die from being ignored, and the more mastery we develop with using other thoughts that empower us. Sometimes I am really good at this; sometimes it's more difficult. But, in the long run, I always feel empowered and have more faith in my mind and my future to take care of themselves when I try to practice these four steps.

Think of three things today to acknowledge and love yourself for; and then do the same thing for someone important in your life. Gratitude shifts my energy everytime.

Take care and be kind to yourself.
