Hey everyone...I was just wondering if it is possible to create your own anxiety about a certain situation or task? Or is that a part of having an anxiety problem? I feel like I am confused now... Any suggestions or advice? Thank you!

Well, I guess I might not be understanding what you are asking. I think most anxiety is of our own creation, though we may not be doing it intentionally. None of us WANT to feel this way but it is our minds that are doing it. I guess there might be a difference in those of us that have a natural chemical imbalance and those people who are thrown into anxiety from a tramatic or highly emotional experience. At least that is what I have understood. There are some people that can take meds for anxiety, fairly short term and be done with it. Then there are others who are probably going to have to deal with anxiety in some form or other for a long while. I am not a Dr so of course this is just my opinion. I would be interested in hearing what the others here think. Good Luck!! Erin

Remember that old saying? God helps those who help themselves? Having been an anxious person all my life & having panic attacks for 36+years, I am an expert in MY OWN ANXIETY. I know that I do myself more harm than good, by fixating on my concerns, fears & worries. Spending time *what iffing* gets me nowhere fast & is a waste of valuable time. I have decided to help myself;)

Of course we contribute to our anxiety. We create alot of it. However, it's within our control as to how much or how little we will allow it to affect us. It takes practice, but you can win the anxiety game. In the *coping tips & tricks* folder below are a couple of great links to worry & how you can learn to limit it & use it to your advantage. GL, Mandi! (((hugs))) jan

Thanx! That makes sense...I think I also read that in doing my anxiety research. Sometimes I know that I am going to be expected to do something, and I build it up in my mind so much and create this big ball of anxiety, but I guess that is what anxiety is. Thank you for your advice. Very thoughtful. Much Thanx!

I wasn't sure...since I have yet to be able to take control back from my anxiety. Sometimes I feel like I the "Whatifffs" turn positive things into negative things. My life has been full of worrying since I was in jr. high. My anxiety has held me back. I will check out the tips. It just gets so frustrating! It seems like it should be easy to do. Thank you....Many hugs!

I would say yes, it is possible to create anxiety if your thought process is going over something repeatedly or if you are anticipating something to happen (whether it is likely to happen or not!)
