I am on Lexapro (finally got off Klonopin woohoo!) and I have been seeing a therapist regularly - she recently told me to consider whether or not I still need therapy. I also do yoga once or twice a week, exercise 6 days a week, meditate about 4-5 times a week. I gave up caffeine and alcohol as well.

Stress....anxiety...you can either live with it, and take all kinds of stuff that bandaid the problem ....I won't get into that,..... or, heal your body. Your mind is the human computer...it is not firing properly. What works for me is accupuncture....I have been using accupunture for over 30 yrs. It is the only thing that I will use. I do not take medicine...I prefer the natural way. Use your own body energy to heal itself. It doesn't work overnight if you've had it a while...I usually have a treatment maybe once a year if I feel stressed...My first treatment was for a heel spur...then I had IBS, guess what...from stress....it cured it..it never came back...I get pains in my chest...I swear the first time I thought it was a heart attack, but now I found out it was a chest wall muscle that tightens up...I had ACP...the pain stopped....then it came back later on the other side....stress attacks the weakest point...that's why it moved to the other side. It is now gone thanks to my wonderful accupucturist. I come back after a treatment feeling wonderful. Not all ACP are alike...I like the ones trained in China...they have the old world techniques. I have to pay out of pocket for this, but it;s us worth it....It cures the problem...not treat the symptom....Give it a try...Its better than a message because it lasts...a message only last till I walk in the kitchen door..Good luck to you....You deserve to live in peace....

welcome30.gifThanks for sharing your thoughts with us. Many of us have an interest in alternative treatments. If you could describe the accupuncture process & how you found your healer, that would be great!

Hi...I would not be able to function without accupuncture. I first tried accupuncture when I worked in the operating room...I thought I had stepped on glass and asked an anesthesiologist for a requitition for an x-ray....He was a Chinese Doctor and said to me in an accent...you get too much x-ray around here...I give you accupuncture...I didn't even know what the problem was, but he nailed it....it was a heel spur. 20 min later, no pain. I became an instant believer. Since then I came down with IBS...caused by stress. I went to a regular Dr. for the diagnosis...and he gave me a medicine that had 40% opium in it..it worked, but He said take this for the rest of your life. No way..I told my Dr. Friend the anesthesiologist and he said " I cure you" after a few treatments, gone. It never came back ...that was in 1984. Since then I have had muscles that just tighten up, that are chest wall muscles. At first i thought it was a heart attack, but now I know what it is. Stress affect the body in so many ways. Accupuncture is a way to open channels to allow the proper flow of energy.Your brain produces its own opiates. Accupuncture just directs these natural opiates to the place thats hurting. I use accupuncture as my first choice of medical treatment. I hate prescription drugs and all their side effects. I'm a natural girl. I like using accupuncturist that have training from China. I believe they use methods that have been taught over thousands of years. Contrary to what you may think, accupuncture does not hurt. I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles. You don't feel these. My 11 yr old had it done for muscles tightening in his neck. It worked great and he loved it. Don't just put a bandaid on a symptom....cure the problem...Try it...its the best thing that ever happened to me.

I voted for alternative only. Just meditating, belly breathing & positive affirmations for the last couple of months. Unfortunately, since my vote, I did take klonopin for awful anxiety I had the other night. No matter how much I relied on calming methods, I was just beside myself with fear/anxiety over my dd.

I did feel sort of guilty about it. But, have put it behind me & realize that there was no sense in suffering more than I needed too. jan

Congratulations! I am interested in how you deal with the times when physically and mentally it is an accomplishment to get out of bed and put one foot in front of the other. I am struggling to focus my thoughts and it is definitely affecting my ability to be effective in my work. Do you, and others, find benefit from exercise? Yoga? What benefits specifically; and what types of exercise do you find most useful.

What types of things do you do to energize yourself and focus your mind when you're trying to pull out of a slump or set-back? I appreciate the feedback.

Dear Ann Theresa:

Thank you so much for your post. I have never even thought of acupuncture for anxiety. I desperately believe that my body can heal itself. I have tried so many things over the past 40 years, so thanks for being specific about Chinese acupuncture. I'm going to do some checking to find a practitioner.

Hello again, Christine! I wanted to let you know that we have a *coping tips & tricks* folder below with lots of great info. There is an article on finding an accupucturist that you might find useful. Also, @ the bottom of each folder, if you click on the *more* button, it will take you back to hundreds of posts on the areas you have asked about. Here is a recent thread on exercise: http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-bhpanic&msg=22284.1&ctx=128
