Angry and needing help controlling it!

Hello,

I almost a year ago was diagnosed with PCOS. With that has many hormone abnormalites. I have noticed that ever since my symptoms have gotten worse over time, my temper has gotten worse. I can almost become dangerous to even people that I love. I can even actually feel my blood pressure rise in my body through my veins, and that just seems to make it worse. I am not a big fan of meds because somehow, I finally got over my anexity problems. I have not had a panic attack in MONTHS!! That is huge for me! But like I said my temper has now become a major issue. I used to not be an angry person, and I don't like being like this. It is even starting to effect my marriage. That is a big NO No so if it means meds then I will do it, but I was wondering if anyone knew of something that I can do that is inexpensive to help. I will do anything, but hey, I'm not made of money! LOL

Thanks,
Krystal

Hi, Krystal! I am sorry to hear this. I am not up-to-date on PCOS, but do know that anxiety/panic can be issues. However, you seem to be having trouble keeping your emotions in check. That must be very scary & frustrating for you.

Have you visited the PCOS board here on iVillage? Perhaps they can point you in the right direction for better emotional control. Are hormones necessary for you? There are some psychiatric drugs that are used to control anger. You really ought to check with a medical professional about meds. We cannot advise you.

I know people who lost control of themselves when angry & attended anger management classes. Have you discussed this with a therapist? That is something that has really helped me in learning to cope better with my anxiety/panic. If classes were available, your therapist could advise you. Please don't wait too long without seeking help. I would hate to see you lose it or cause further breakdown in your marriage.

For now, please check out our *coping tips & tricks* folder below. There's many ways to meditate, de-stress & bring some inner calm to your life. Good luck & GBU! (((hugs))) jan

Well, congrats on getting your anxiety under control! Many of us here are still dealing with that so it always helps to hear that someone has made it out in one piece!! :)

I also do not know what PCOS is (sorry!) but have you read anywhere that the anger issues could be associated with that?? The hormone issue would be top on my list since I get really angry and frustrated just before my period. So much so that it is out of character for me also. I always know it is from the hormones and try to keep it in check for the few days it is around. Jan had some really great ideas in her post, I think you should check into some of them. I am sure that since this is not your normal emotional state, this must be highly frustrating for you. I really think you should talk to your medical Dr or see about a therapist to find the root of this. Like you said, you don't want this to get any worse if it is already causing problems for you. I sure wish I had some really great words of wisdom to offer you but as of now, all I can give you is my support and positive thoughts that this will work out for you!!! Keep us posted!! Hugs, Erin
