Drinking Alcohol & Taking Meds

Hello,

I'm on Zoloft and Klonopin as needed, and I usually drink about once a month, sometimes twice a month but no more than that.

What are your thoughts and opinions on this subject? Does anyone else drink and use meds?

Thank you,

Tina

I have tried to drink a few times while on meds and each time it is a disaster. I feel very disconnected, faint and nauseated. I don't recommend drinking while on the meds. If you do, be careful and limit your amount.

Hi there. In 2002 I started taking Paxil 20mg and took it for 3yrs up until Oct of '06. During that time I would have a couple drinks off and on about once or twice a month like you. Usually a glass or two of wine. I even went on a couple wine tours during that time. I didn't notice any BAD side effects except that it made me more dizzy than I would have been without the meds. I would always stop after a couple glasses, just because I was scared of what might happen if I drank more. Now I am on the Paxil 12.5mg CR time release and I have not had anything to drink since starting it at the beginning of Jan '07. I am worried that with the time release, it will affect me differently than with the regular dosing. Plus, I had been taking Ativan to help me sleep (like the Klonipin) and I have heard that you do NOT want to mix the benzo-whats-its (sorry can't pronounce the name) with alcohol as it can have BAAAADD effects. Hope this helps! Erin

When your prescriptions are filled, generally there is a warning label

Hi, AJ here,

I'm new to panic/anxiety and xanax in the last two weeks and I'm definitely not drinking any alcohol while I'm on it. I have always enjoyed a glass or two of wine, especially to unwind with my dh once or twice a week after the kids went to bed. So it's a lifestyle change. My doctor says he'll have to wean me off xanax and onto something else, which I'm sure will also come with a "no alcohol" warning. I feel like I need to pay more attention to my overall health and wellness, and am making other changes in my diet/exercise anyway, so I feel that taking the alcohol out of my system is another way I can try to get back in charge of my health. I must say, though, that I look forward to one day being able to sit and enjoy a glass of wine again. :)
