Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to give you a huge THANK YOU for all your warm welcomes and advice. It helps a lot to know that I am not alone. I think I can learn a lot from you guys. :)

ERIN- I have found some of my triggers, and my anxiety comes about more when I am very tired...which seems to make me more emotional. I also wanted to thank you for making me smile at the end of your post.

SHERI ANN- You are exactly right about keeping busy. I think I always had something to do Monday through Friday, that once I sat down on Saturday...anxiety reared its ugly head. I sometimes go shopping for random things just so I have something to think about. haha.

JAN- My friend also has a a fear of driving, its when she had her first panic attack. Any advice or coping tactics I can pass on? This may sound weird...but I find myself fearing death, or the death of a loved one. Anyone else?

JENNIFER- Thanks for the support and open door for emailing. :)

Thanks again to all of you!! I have been officially diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety at my college counseling center. I then started attending group meetings for anxiety, however I had to stop because I graduated. So I am very glad I found all of you! I also am not taking Xanax anymore. I have only taken in once in order to get through my big time interview. I am hoping I will not have to ever take it again. I will try and join you tomorrow night at 9pm for the chat. Thanks again!

Cheers,
Magen

YVW, Magen. I used the small step approach to get back behind the wheel. I began just sitting in the car. Then driving to the end of the driveway. Then, to the stop sign, etc. Eventually I went farther away from home & for longer periods. I pushed until I was uncomfortable but not panicking. I learned the belly breathing & also progressive relaxation. My pdoc showed me how I actually set myself up for panic, by gripping the wheel tightly & hunching over with tense muscles. Good heavens! No wonder I had chest pain & thought it was a heart attack;) HTH (((hugs))) jan

Hey there Magenann, I was reading your post and something caught my eye. For your fear of death, you are definetly not alone. I believe most people are afriad to die, but some (in our case) way more than others. I myself am afraid, if not petrified. There are times where I obsess about it. I don't know what your beliefs are, but what helped me, (helped that is, I'm still working on it) is finding something to believe in. I have educated myself on God, and that seems to comfort me.

Anyways, if you need to talk, I'll be glad to listen and try and help you cope!!

:)
