Therapy Session

Today was my fourth therapy session and I am a little confused by the method that the doctor used in our session today and I was wondering if anyone else has had experience with it. He attached two sensors to my right hand that were attached to a machine that measured anxiety. Throughout the session he was trying to get my anxiety up by asking questions that would give me anxiety or make me think about things that made me anxious. He said that the purpose of this is to try and desensitize me. He said I might have anxiety today but tomorrow I should feel good because my mind will be tired of thinking about these things and I will have almost like an anxiety-free day. I don't really understand this too much, I mean I do have anxiety now because I have been talking about negative things for like an hour but I don't know how I will feel tomorrow.

Does anyone have any insight into this method/tactic?

Thanks,
Victoria

I have had many doctors & therapists in my 36+ years of panic attacks. I have never had this procedure. I am very familiar with biofeedback & desensitization. What you had done *could* have been either of them.

In my experience, before people begin a treatment, they should ask questions. They should be fully informed about what will happen & what they should expect. If you have concerns now, Victoria, call your dr. immediately. Performing any sort of test on a person with anxiety & not cluing them in to all the details can be frightening & possibly contribute to more anxiety. I know it would definitely set me off. GL & GBU! I believe sometimes facing your fears/anxieties can be healing and beneficial, of course as long as it is in a productive way. Good luck to you and hope you have much success with your therapy.
