Hi everyone, I'm new here and looking for some advice, reassurance, etc...LOL
I'm 51 and for about 2 years have been having infrequent, mild anxiety attacks. Well today I was 2 1/2 hours from home at a conference and had one. It got to the point that I felt like I was going to pass out. I left the room and went outside. I felt better, so I returned to the conference. I was a little "antsy" after that until they served lunch. I had gone over 12 hours with nothing to eat except 2 glazed donuts while on the road. I know, it wasnt smart, but when you are half asleep it's hard to think properly. I did feel better after a good lunch, but was a little concerned about the drive home. I was alone by the way. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has ever felt like they might pass out during an attack. I'm not on any meds for them and wondering if maybe I need to go in for a good check up and blood work.
Thanks alot,
Rhonda in CA

Hi Rhonda!
Usually every time I have a panic attack it feels like I'm going to pass out. I never have but it's still scary whenever it happens. Hope this helps.

Hi there,

It can never hurt to go to the doctor and have a check up, and maybe bloodwork done. Have you been to see the doctor since you began having your infrequent panic attacks? Since they don't seem to be affecting you for the most part, it may be that you don't need to be on medication for them, but seeing your doctor will reassure you that there is not a more complex problem behind them, or behind feeling like you are going to pass out.

This is a great, supportive place, and there are a lot of alternatives to going on medication that are discussed on this board, particularly coping mechanisms. Glad to see you found us :)

Take care,
El

Hi Rhonda!! I am glad you came here...everyone here is great and supportive, and no you are not alone. I have had a couple of bad ones where I felt like i was going to pass out and couldn't breathe, so its def something to check out with your doctor or find a good psychiatrist to help if they keep happening. I know how horrible it is to have it happen public as well I have had a few of those myself. And just from my own experience I have thyroid and adrenal gland issues, and also slightly hypoglycemic which contributes to my anxiety so I always tell people to have their blood sugar, thyroid and adrenals checked just to be sure that everything is okay there. But keep posting here...we are here for support and advice or just to listen when you need to vent...it is a great place but def talk to your docotor about everything!! much hugs and welcome

Hi, Rhonda! Nice to have you in our caring community:) It's interesting to me(as a diabetic) that you mentioned eating 2 glazed donuts & having these symptoms. Nothing will raise your sugar any quicker than sugary foods such as this. OTOH, nothing will drop your sugar any lower

Thanks Sheriann,
Yes I have a cell phone. But here in Calif they have a law that you really aren't suppose to Talk and Drive....LOL But I would have called if I had needed to. I did stop at a friend's house that livea about 40 minutes from my house. The little break and a caring friend helped alot.
Thanks again
Rhonda
