I posted these on my autism board:
I have posted a few times before about my son Dakota who was dx with autism 2 years ago. His meds are (for just a recap) Adderall 20mg once a day, Trazadone 50mg one pill in am and 2 in the pm and Risperdal 1mg one pill in the am and 2 in the pm. Well, as you all can remember I posted about his studdering and the doctor says that it was from the Riperdal well, she was just slowing lower the dose. We went to my mother in laws house on Saturday to celebrate Easter with the family and Dakota was just not acting right. His moods were off of the charts and his studdering was so bad that you could not understand a single word that came out of his mouth. Then all of a sudden I noticed that is hands were "twiching" (sp?) and he could not control his hands! I totally FREAKED out!!! I called the on call doctor which luckly it was his own developmental peds so, she said by no means give him any more Risperdal and she called in some Benztropine Mes 1mg tabletrop to take for the withdrawals and side effects. She said that he was having an allergic reaction to the Risperdal. Well, he has been having the new meds and was doing okay but, then yesterday around lunch time he starting with the muscle twitching again and this time it was his whole body!!! I freaked out again and took him to the ER and they did a cat scan and said that he probably has some brain damage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can not believe this!! My baby is going to be like this for the rest of his life!!! He is still doing it now!! It looks like he is in a seizure!!! He has barely ate in 3 days and is drinking fine but, he has barely peed in 2 days!! I am scared and hurt and p****d off!!! I have no clue what to do!! I guess I just needed to vent!!
I almost forgot that he is no longer taking the Risperdal she upped his Adderall to 25mg once a day and then added Remoron. I don't know what kind of med that is but, she said that it would help with his appetite since he has lost 6lbs!
Hugs,
Jennifer
Hello to all. I first want to Thank you for all of your continued support! :) Well, Dakota got worse this afternoon. He spiked a fever, was uncontrobaly (sp?) having muscle spasms, had white stuff on his tongue and started with a rash. I called his specail needs ped and she said to bring him right in and I brought him in and they rushed him in the back to the vital signs room. I had four to five nurses all around me while they were trying to get his vital signs. Well, they went and got his special needs ped out of another patient room and she took one look at him and said "I am admitting him!". They took him to a room and started an IV because he was really dehydrated and then she came in and said she was taking him off all of the medications and sending him upstairs to the Children's Hospitals ICU. Right now my dh is there with him because I half to get my other two kids ready to take them to my old neighbor's house till Dakota get's out of the hospital. Anyway, there are calling in a pedictric neurologist to see him in the morining. They have given him Benadryl and are going to be giving him another med to help with the Risperdal side effects but, I am so scared that this is going to be permanent!! As soon as he is well enough to come home I am contacting a lawyer and finding another doctor and for no reason at all will he go on meds again. The doctors at the hospital will not know more about his progress until they see if the meds will work but, so far he not doing any better. PLEASE keep Dakota and our family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you!
HUGS,
Jennifer
