does anyone else get this?

hey everyone!
i know a lot of people say their anxiety gets worse when they have pms. what i'm wondering is does anyone also get really dizzy (without other anxiety symptoms) kinda like their head is floating above them? this is how i feel the week before but i don't know if it's from hormones or if it's an anxiety symptom or totally unrelated. i have not been able to get a real answer although it would be really helpful. if anyone does get this, how do you cope with it? most of the time if i feel dizzy or "not right", it makes me more anxious. thanks for the help.

Hey Lynn,
Wow, I didn't think that dizziness could be a symptom of an oncoming anxiety attack, but it very well could be....I say this because I experience this quite often...I never thought twice about it...I'm so glad that you brought it up!
As far as coping with it...hmmmm...it lasts for a short while , I do feel as though I'm floating...sometimes I'll just close my eyes...other times, I'll feel the need to lay down or put my head down for a few minutes...
It is sometimes a precursor to a migraine, in my experience...It just depends how harsh the feeling actually is...I hope that your experiences with this aren't too bothersome...
Now I can talk to my doctor about this and feel comfortable knowing that it's not just in my head, lol
Hugggggssssssss
^j^Honesty
I have the dizziness often also. Most of the time it's slight & if I notice my breathing, it's shallow. I always get dizzy when I have a panic attack. And feel like I'm going to pass out. But what I also get sometimes is very aggravating because it is hard to function with it & quite frankly, scares me half to death! I always think I'm having a stroke or something (wherever my anxious mind goes) I see my dr quite often, as I have a few other health problems so I'm sure if it were serious, he would've already found something but I don't seem to believe that when I'm anxious! Thanks for your reply!
Take Care!

Hi
Yes, I have alot of dizziness. Sometimes that is my only anxiety symptom. And yes it is worse right before I get my period until about a day after it starts. It used to scare me and make me more anxious. So I went to the doctor to get cecked out. Everything is physically fine with me. Its just my pms/anxiety thing.
When I feel dizzy, I try to concentrate on my breathing. When I am stressed, I tend to hold my breath (which can make you dizzy) so I make sure to take deep breaths and practice belly breathing.
Also,
I try not to focus on the dizziness or I will make myself more anxious. I keep telling myself that I am fine. This is just a symptom of my anxiety and try to focus on something else.
I just started zoloft 5 weeks ago. Most of my dizziness is gone except for when I get my period. I used to have it all the time.
Good Luck
This is definitely a symptom of anxiety. Many folks have reported it. Using the advanced search @ the top of the page, you can bring up those posts. For me, I tend to hyperventilate when I am panicking. Naturally dizziness is a symptom of that. Naturally, it makes me more afraid & then more anxious & guess what??? MORE DIZZY! LOL I use the belly breathing to combat it. I keep myself occupied & distracted from it. I have sat down or even laid on my bed to prevent falling(which I have NEVER done, but always am convinced will happen.) The pre-menstrual dizziness is widely reported, so you are NOT alone.
If ever you feel things aren't right, see your dr. It could be allergies or inner ear trouble. HTH GL! (((hugs))) jan
Thanks for your reply. Did your dr do any tests to rule out anything? I've been to 3 ent's so my ears are fine. My dr now wants to do 2 other tests to make sure it's not from my BP being too low & if that comes back ok, he's sending me to a neurologist. What doesn't make any sense is I've been complaining about this for years & just now he is ordering these other tests. I don't know if it's because he's concerned or just trying to put my mins at ease (because of my anxiety). I think the other tests to a point are also making me more anxious!

It's me-duranny! (I changed my screen name) How have you been? Did you have your surgery yet? Hope all is well with you. About the dizziness, I've had my ears checked. I also have allergies & take Zyrtec. I can't take decongestants because I have tachycardia. I just wanted to know if it was anything to worry about. I was told that if it were something serious, it would get worse-not stay the same. But something happened a few months ago that really scared me. My sis & bil were coming over for dinner & as I was cooking, I got really dizzy. Like I couldn't even stand up. I went to go lie down & fell asleep for a few hours. When I woke up, I stretched my neck & it cracked & then I was ok. What scares me is I keep thinking this will happen again & I'll be stranded somewhere away from home or I had a minor stroke, or oh the list goes on. So of course, when I get dizzy, all this goes through my mind & I just wish someone would say I'm fine & mean it. Look forward to talking to you again!
Lynn
You're fine & I MEAN it!!! LOL Seriously, ITA that it would've gotten worse over time. It isn't unusual to fear having another *spell.* Tell yourself that the tests have been negative. That you are fine. Etc. I keep a list to refer to when my health concerns start up.
My surgery is Wed. Getting kind of anxious, but staying busy & thinking positively. Be good till I get back, Lynn;) (((hugs))) jan
Hugs,

I have gotten this quite a bit right before and during my period as well...I think it has alot to do with hormones but I also have chronic fatigue syndrome and I think having anxiety also takes quite a toll on your body because i have noticed too when I am more anxious i get dizzy and having attacks drains me too and i get dizzy lol...but yes, its a big symptom and most of the people I talk to say that their anxiety gets alot worse around that time of the month...I know mine does...it was pretty bad at first and then I had a pretty good couple of months and then last month I was stressed out and it made it worse last month, so if you get anxious try and do something to relax to minimize the stress (easier said than done, I KNOW lol) but I have found that the more stressed I am during the month the worse the period that month...are you on anything for your anxiety? I hope this helped a little...I feel like I am babbling because I am WIPED from being out and cleaning the house all day yesteday lol...god bless and good luck!! :)

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I'm on Paxil & Ativan but my dr is switching me soon because they kinda stopped working like they should be. It's just good to know I'm not alone sometimes with my "weird symptoms"! Thanks again & take care!
