On this day 24 years ago You got out of bed To a day of August sunshine

Said good bye To friends and family You had visited on the weekend

Climbed into your car And started the 5 hour drive Back to your home

It had been a special trip this weekend High school sweethearts got married Got to see all your high school buddies again

But the weekend is over Back to work tomorrow And the routine of daily life

Something happened though About 1 ½ hours from home We will never know exactly what

Only that everything just stopped for you One second you’re okay The next second dead

No more seeing, talking, No more touching, hearing No more heart beating

No more funny jokes No more wonderful smile No more warm hugs

No more teasing No more laughing No more singing to me

No more letters No more caring As only a big brother can do

Who could have ever known Who would have ever even guessed What that day would bring

That it would be a day of ‘lasts’ Last morning to get out of bed Last meal to eat

Last time you waved at a neighbor Last time you spoke with someone Last drive you took

Last smile you gave Last song you sang Last time your eyes sparkled

That the day would start out normal And end normal - for others But end your life completely

And though you are not here You will always be In my memories And in my heart
