How much time do you spend on the computer during an average day?
And what do you spend the most time doing on the computer?

Way too much, but it does vary depending on what's up for the day. Our office has gone almost completely to electronic files, so I spend lots of time referring to those files. All of our trial prep is also done using various programs, and we also use other programs during trial (witness preparation, exhibits, etc.). In addition, I probably receive 75 to 100 e-mails a day. Add that to normal correspondence, faxes (which I also receive electronically), calendars (yep, electronic) and on a normal day, I probably am looking at a screen for 6 or 7 hours. The remainder of the time is spent with my ear to a telephone. Thank heaven for speaker phones that allow me to keep checking and responding to e-mails during long conference calls. If our network goes down for some reason, we all sit around and twiddle our thumbs because we are so computer dependent. We have 32 people within the firm whose sole responsibilities are to keep us up and running and to solve our problems.

So, needless to say, my computer at home is very seldom used as the last thing I want to do is look at another keyboard or computer screen, and I really don't have much time at work to do non-work-related things. Checking up on you people and ordering my Netflix movies are about it. I even had special glasses made last fall just for computer screens. They are specifically "set" for the distance I sit from the screen--not good for much else, but they have solved all the eye-strain problems.

I spend WAY too much time online, but some days I just stay offline completely and get other things done.

I spend most of my time at my iVillage boards and visiting other sites here. The rest of my time is spent answering email and designing/printing out cards for family occasions, like birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Like everyone else - probably too much time. 3 - 6 hours a day, I would guess. Now I'm going to keep track for a few days.

I check my email, go shopping, read the news, and of course, check out the message boards. I love 'em!

  1. How much time do you spend on the computer during an average day? Hmm... between 8 and 10 hours on a good day, more on a "bad" day.

  2. And what do you spend the most time doing on the computer? I do everything on the computer ~ write, read newspapers, do research, talk to people, IM with friends, CL and play on the boards. I
