I really want to take a tropical vacation this Fall :) The rates to go to St. Thomas(or another US V.I) , or the Bahamas are really good for Oct. 30th (probably because it's the tail end of hurricane season).

Anyway - I've never been ANYWHERE - so I'm wondering if anyone else has, and if you have any suggestions, tips, or experiences to share.

I just want to go somewhere beautiful - and stay somewhere that I won't have to keep taking cabs & side trips all over the place. A casino is a plus, which I notice there are some in the Bahamas.

Any info you have is appreciated :)

Thanks, Julie

I've been to St. Maarten and a few others. When I went on a cruise a few years ago we stopped at a number ot the St. islands - Barts, Thomas, Croix. I have to be honest with you, they are all basically the same. St. Maarten might be the one with more to do on the lsland, tons of shopping, etc.

As long as you have a nice beach, and most of them are WAY nicer than the beaches in my area (think Long Island Sound - blah), you will be relaxing in style.

One vacation I would recommend is Club Med. I went to Club Med in Turks & Caicos a few years ago and loved it. You get 3 meals a day, they are all buffet, so you take as much or as little as you want. I believe during lunch and dinner you get beer and wine. After dinner you have to go to the bar and those drinks are extra. What we did was take some mini bottles of booze from home and before the dinner was finished we'd get some free juice or punch, maybe 2 glasses, and take them with us to the patio. Then we'd spike them with our own booze. It worked for us.

I don't know if there are any Club Meds in the Virgin Islands other than Turks & Caicos. There is one in Mexicso, possibly Acupulco or Cancun. I went to an adults only Club Med. They have a good web site for Club Med and will post specials on it. It's probably simply clubmed.com.

Good luck, it's always fun doing research for a vacation.
