Hi Tziporah,

I am so sorry that this is such a belated welcome to you. I've been absent from the board for nearly a month - so many things have been happening in my life that it was difficult to also come here. The good news is that life has somewhat calmed down (but I'm still crossing my fingers and my toes), which means that I'm back on iVillage.

I am so very happy to see you here, participating and sharing in our conversations! I hope that we'll get to know each other better in the coming weeks.

Welcome again!

(PS: I love the sound of your name!)

Hi Tziporah!

I'm taking a break from packing and came over to visit this board first.

Vent away all you want on this particular dependency issue.

Hi Tziporah & Karen!

Thought I'd bump this up for you so it's not buried and you can continue your conversation. :)

Hi Tziporah,

I hope that you have found us easily. I think I will email you the link to this particular post once I've uploaded it, so that you can find it easily, too. We learn something new every day, and today I learned how to find the url to each post, so thank you for indirectly leading me to this find.

Since you are now logged in, you can edit your preferences. This will set how many topics (used to be called threads, now also called discussions) you see in a page, and how many posts you see in a topic at once. To Edit Your Preference, right click here Edit My Preferences and choose open link in a new tab or open link in a new window. I ask you to right click and open a new window so that you can come here to read the guide, and go to the new tab or window to edit your preferences.

1. Once the new window or tab is open on that first page you can edit your time zone, etc. If you don't use the rich text editor, you can leave that box unchecked. You can also leave the view signatures in post unchecked, too if you wish.

"Automatically susbcribe me to topics I participate to" means that you'll automatically get an email notification every time someone posts to a topic you've written to, whether that person has posted to you or not. You can also opt to only be subscribe to certain topics, and you do this when you are replying to that topice - there will be a subscriptions heading on the right hand side of the "post message" page, with "email me when someone replies" next to the box to be checked.

For signature - the signature that you used before the board went Read-Only is still there.

Biography - if you want to tell people a little about yourself.

Click "save changes"!

2. The settings page has 6 parts to it, and each part has sub-pages. To find the parts, there are tabs. We're now in Preferences, but there is also Tagging, Macros, Subscriptions and Bookmarks, Social Connect and Mobile. I'm linking each one here, but we're going to stay in Preference for now.

3. Let's go to Display Settings. You can either find the link to on the Preferences page that we were in previously, or right click here. There are only a couple of things here. First check the use relative dates box. Then you have to decide whether you want to turn on Quick Reply or not. Quick reply doesn't allow rich text editing (bold, italics, underline, post pictures, linking, etc) and doesn't allow a preview. It opens up a little box underneath the post you want to reply to instead of opening a new page. Save changes.

4. Now let's go to General Settings, link of which is next to Display Settings. You can right click here. There's a box with "sort topics by time of most recent post" that might need to be checked. Save changes.

5. Now let's go to linear layout - right click here. What you have to decide here is the posts per topic. I think the default is set at 5. I have it at 30, but some have 15. It means that when you are in a discussion such as this, how many posts you can see at once on a page. Since there are only a few people talking here, maybe a number betweetn 5 and 10 is sufficient? Please check the box next to "jump to the first unread post in a topic" - otherwise, it will always take you to the first reply of the topic.

6. Private Messenger - right click here. This will allow you to receive (or not receive) private messages. This replaces email between members. We can now talk to each other in private without going through our person emails. Don't forget to save the changes you've made.

7. If you opted to subscribe to the topics that you participate in, or if you subscribe to a particular topic (this one, for example), you might want to go to Subscriptions and Bookmarks - you can right click here. You have the option of receiving an immediate notification, a daily digest or a weekly one. I suggest that for Email Content you choose subject and body because in the email notification you'll be able to see what the person has written. I've also check the following boxes under susbcriptions: remove html from posts, remove user signature from posts, ignore posts I have already read, for my board subscriptions notify me of all posts. I left the "notify me of my own post" box unchecked since I know what I've written! Save changes

7. Lastly (for today at least). I suggest that you mark all the posts in this community as read. This way, you'll be better able to see when there's a new post and clicking on that topic will take you to the newest post instead of an old old one (because, right now even posts that were written 4 years ago are considered new.) You can do it from under the Quick Links header on the top right hand corner of the page or you can right click here.

Before I go, please be very gentle on yourself. It's a difficult transition for everyone including Karen and I so you aren't the only one. I hope that this helps you instead of confusing you even more.

Talk to you soon!

Tziporah, one final last things (I keep saying that, huh?)

There's now the possibility to float a topic to the top of the list everytime you come to a board. To do that for this topic, click here.

And now I think we can start chatting away again. There will be things here and there, but you've covered the basics!

I think I have found something. I have been clicking on buttons, and this one opened up a text box. Let's hope it works... and that I can replicate it!
