Who's still having trouble navigating the new board? What specific issues, if any, are you still experiencing?

I'd like to take this information and share it with the iVillage team so we can get some help if we need it.

Thanks!

I guess you can count me among those who are having trouble with the new format. I really think I'm doing all right when it comes to figuring things out, because I'm a pretty quick study with that sort of thing, but a lot of the changes seem cumbersome to me. It just takes me a lot longer to navigate the board than it did before. Maybe I'm still in an adjustment period, but certain aspects of the new format seem so awkward and annoying.

For example, I like the outline view, but why does a new window have to open for me to view the board that way? Can't it just open in the same old window? And then when I click on the subject line in the outline view, *another* window opens that contains the message I want to read. And if I want to read replies to that message, I have to either go back to the outline view window and click on the subject line of the reply, which opens yet another new window, or I have to deal with those tiny numbers at the bottom that lead to the replies. I'm getting a headache just thinking about it!

Also, I still can't find all of my messages in the archives. The oldest one I can find, after searching for my user name, is from April 26, 2002. And the subject line of *that* message says something about my one-year anniversary on the board, so that leads me to believe that either I'm not searching correctly, or there are still a lot of older messages missing from the archives.

The worst problem I'm having with the new format is that it seems to be causing my Web browser to freeze or lock up under certain conditions. I usually keep several browser windows open in Internet Explorer, because I have a number of Web-based email accounts I like to monitor throughout the day. Since the new format came along, it seems that Internet Explorer locks up on me when I check my email *and* view an iVillage message board at the same time. In other words, if I do try to do those two things at exactly the same time, the window with the iVillage message board freezes, won't load, and won't close. It's happened more than once since the new format was introduced, and it never happened before that, so I can only assume that it has something to do with the new format. It's incredibly inconvenient to have my Web browser pooping out on me all the time, because the only way to get rid of the frozen browser window is to close out *everything* and restart. I suppose one simple solution would be to make sure that I'm not checking for new email at the same I view this board, but *if* the new format is somehow responsible for my computer's new freezing tendencies, I don't feel like I should be the one to change my habits.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Sorry to unload all my frustrations, Gail, but I'm glad you asked. I should add that there are a lot of things that don't bother me about the new format, and there are some things that I actually like. But for now, the inconveniences are definitely outweighing the benefits. I really want to keep hanging out on this board and on iVillage, but I'm having a hard time with the changes.

Take care,

This is great information. Thank you and please know I didn't feel as though you unloaded on me. You gave me just what I was looking for. Not that I was looking for your frustration, but I was glad to learn your specific issues.

The outline view issue seems to be an annoyance for many members. The multiple windows and the locking up problems rub many people the wrong way. All I know at this time is that those who sit on iVillage's mahogany row have heard this complaint. I just don't know when anything will change. I know outline view is preferred b/c it closely resembles the old format. In fact, it's so preferred by members that the demand put an unbelievable overload on the servers and it slowed everything down. I'm told they have reconciled this problem by adding additional server units to cover the demand.

Regarding your old posts, well, it was my understanding that the search command was not set up to search by username. I tried searching by my name and it gave me 24 listings. I'm gonna bet I've posted many more times than 24 since I've been here, lol. I personally checked through the archives and I was able to find every one from the inception of the board so all your posts are intact. Now, we just need a way of finding them for you. I'm working on it and I'll let you know what I get.

GJ, thanks again. I hope I understood your issues enough. Please, clarify anything you feel I missed.

Thanks, Gail, for reassuring me about the archives. I spent some time clicking the "more" link, which does indeed lead to older archived messages. You're right, it seems like they're all there. I guess the search feature only goes through messages dating back a year or so. Instead of searching for my username, I tried some keywords that appear often in subject lines - like "trigger" and "dream" and "new" - and every single time the search results stopped at March or April of 2002. It's nice to know that the archives are there, but it would be even better if they were easier to navigate. I really miss that page with the numbered archived boards! Thanks again for your reassurance. Just knowing that the archives are there, even if they aren't completely searchable, is a big relief to me.

I'm fairly frustrated...but mostly because I didn't bother to do the tutorial and/or take the time to figure it out. So my own fault, really. I guess my feedback would be that it is not easy to navigate "intuitively"...

I am not really liking this new forum. It's not as clear as the one before. I really liked the old sight, because you could see everything with no problem. But, that's my only qualms about it. Otherwise I'm sure I'll probably get used to it. :-/

Thanks for asking, too,Gail. I feel the same way about the outline view, which is opened in a new window. Then when you click on a message IT opens a new window, etc. Then I ask myself if part of my problem is that I just get generally upset about change period? I don't know. I did like the old board and how it was easily navigable. With so many other things so difficult in my life, I would like this to be easy! :) Stacy

Again--thank you very much for caring enough to ask our opinions!

I feel pretty good about the boards so far. It took me a while and I had to play around in it. Get lost on purpose and then find my way 'back' to where I wanted to be. That helped.

However...I never really checked out the archives. I didn't really see a point of reading the archives. I liked the archive page of the old boards but it was hard and it took forever to find specific posts unless I remembered the number or the approximate date. In the new archive I think it's neat how we can look up posts related to a certain subject or things of that nature. I do have something to comment on...Same as Greenjeanz I believe, you can only go back one year using the search. I'd like to know how to go back further. Uhmmm...Gail, check your email. Oh, now that I don't have ivillage email I thought I'd let you gals know my email. It's Chameleonical@yahoo.com

I personally think navigating on these boards are a bit easier than the old ones. For some reason, I think there was something I didn't know about the old board which made navigating pretty tedious for me.

I seem to be doing OK. It's not what I'm used to, but as I said before--I'm no stranger to change! For me, change is the norm. :-) 13 moves in 13 years will do that to you!

But if others are having trouble, please let me know & I'll try my best to help!

Here's what was written in a cheat sheet I posted (called Tips & Tricks) describing friends:

"Friends:

While you are reading someone’s post, you may notice that there is an option that says “add to friends” under their name on the left side of the screen. Click on that and they will be added to your friends list. This feature gives everyone on your friends list a little face with a blue hat icon by their name when they post. This way, you’ll be able to see when your friend has posted. To see your friends list, just go into your profile and click the tab that says “friends”."

Let me know if you're still unclear.
