Hi, I have had bits of memories coming back for about a year. I'm also disassociating, having nightmares and am very stressed. I feel like I just need to stuff all this; I know there is a monster behind the door and I'm trying to keep the door shut

My husband is trying to get me to go back to a therapist and trying to discuss this with me. He posted some of his thoughts last week

I just don't know what to do, this is bad stuff

Facing memories can be scary.

Hi Rita,

She's right, facing memories can be very difficult. I definately understand what you mean by a monster in the closet and trying to keep that door closed. I felt like that a lot when I started remembering. It's a wild ride sometimes.

Grounding does help. When I went through flashbacks, I tried to have a piece of ice to hold onto. There's excercises that focus on visual stimuli, but I didn't have those when I first started remembering.

Alisa, I will try the ice..nothing else is working. All this stuff was dormant for 40 yeays until my father died 18 months ago. I'll get thru it

(((Rita)))

I hope the ice works for you. My memories weren't repressed nearly as long as yours or many others here. I've been told I'm lucky that I'm starting healing young. I'm not sure if that's really lucky...but you deal with what you're dealt, ya know? I also found writing at times helps too, not necessarily during a f/b, but when you need to get something out. Granted, I'm a writer, so maybe that's just me.

Take care and keep us updated.

Alisa

Brenda, You are right, this is not easy at all. I still want to avoid dealing with this, but I know its not going away. My husband has been understanding, but I don't want him pushing me. I did start asking around about finding a better therapist

My emotions and hormones are all over the map right now

Yes, I understand from what he has said that your husband has been pushing you a little.
