I don't feel too bad about this one

The latest rejection letter came on letterhead that included an e-mail address not mentioned (???) in the agency's Herman's entry. It is dated "February/02." (What kind of date is that?)

The site is on Geocities. (Too cheap to register their own domain?) It includes links to a book list and submission guidelines, both of which lead to the always entertaining Geocities "whoops, we can't find your page" page. In other words, the links do not work. At the bottom of the site is a list of illustrator clients, but not authors.

That, along with the repeated inattention to detail, tells me they wouldn't have been much help to me had they taken me on as a client. I can make my own website, with all working links, and push my book that way, if I have to. In fact, I have:

http://www.angelfire.com/retro/october14

Had I gotten into that site earlier, I wouldn't have queried them.

And these go right into the fireplace ...

Any SASE with a New York City postmark that comes back less than a week after mailing, if I can feel that there's only a postcard inside. The postcard, which can only be a generic rejection "due to lack of time ..." and the quick turnaround tell me the material wasn't even read. Cross that agency off the list, their loss, not mine. At least the package was opened. Can I put that on my resume? "Sample chapters envelope opened by a New York publishing agent?"

One wonders why the web sites and reference book entries for such agencies STILL solicit queries ...
