What's Your Opinion On Tarot Readings?

  • It is evil and brings out bad spirits.
  • If used for good, it is a tool to communicate with the other side for guidance.
  • It's a bunch of malarkey. I can't believe people believe in that stuff.
  • I'm not sure, I am a little freaked out by it.
  • Never thought about it.

You will be able to change your vote.

Please feel free to post a response with your opinion.  It would be a good discussion topic because I think a lot of people have differing views on it.  That's what is good about this board.  You can have a different view and it's totally acceptable.  That's what we're here for.

Tarot readings are only as good as the tarot reader

Hmm, my opinion isn't listed here, lol. So, maybe I'll just post about how I feel about them.

I'm sorry to say that I have stayed away from them a little bit due to the influence of my mother and grandmother, affirming that they are indeed "evil". But I personally don't necessarily adhere to that belief. I mean, I just don't think it makes much sense.

However, I also never really thought of them as tools for communicating with the other side. I guess I'm just really not all that into channeling, etc. I just always thought of tarot cards as a tool, yes, but I just felt that certain cards came up in the readings due to the vibrations/energy, whatever you want to call it of the person, not necessarily b/c some spirit guide is using the cards to communicate with us. I guess I can see, then, where the whole "evil" idea may have come into being. And I only say that b/c Ouija boards completely freak me out, and they say that THEY are used as a tool to communicate with those on the other side. I have heard of far too many instances where a NEGATIVE influence came up on the board...so I really never used Ouija boards. I'd rather stay away from that.

Anyway, I kind of find it a little disappointing that it is said of Tarot cards as well. I think one of the good things about the cards is the ability for interpretation. It's not like a "this is the future, and that's it! Believe it as I say it!" type of thing...

I have in the last few months starting using tarot cards, but I haven't done an actual reading yet. I am just trying to familiarize myself with the cards and everything. I guess I'm not doing it in the best way, b/c sometimes I "neglect" them, probably for too long a period of time. But I am trying my best to get familiar with the cards and their "meanings". I find them very interesting. I don't like to think of them as "evil".

It's funny, though, Cara, what you said about the images you got when you were meditating. When I first smudged my cards, I was getting some grueling yucky images, too. It almost made me feel like those people that call the cards "evil" were right--but I really figured that it was more my fear/concern of "what if?" than that they really WERE right.

Well, anyway, that's basically how I feel, but I don't really put the "other side" spin on the cards--I do find them to be an interesting tool, though.

Thanks for letting me share.

Love,

Victoria

Hi Victoria, I forgot to put "OTHER" as a selection.

Hello, All! :)) I wish they had a waving icon...

I'm new to this board, just wanted to say Hi! and jump in and make a few comments on Tarot. :P I agree with Veildancer's post a great deal. I've never thought of Tarot as a link to the "other side," either (as I believe Ouija *is,* however). Tarot, or stones that I use, are divination tools, IMO, to show indications at any given moment in time. They are not in any way "written in concrete," as in fortune-telling, wherein people believe it's "destiny" or something, contained in the reading. Tarot, stones, wisdom cards, runes are all tools to see what forces and energies are working within you at a given time in your life. I find the readings usually cover distant past, immediate past that can affect the present, the present, and future indications, with an addtional possible outcome, if all conditions remained the same. Depending on your energy focus, from day to day, your chosen actions and thoughts, all of these things can fluctuate. Your past and recent pass can always affect your present, your emotions and mind as well as your spirit because of past experiences or teachings or studies that change your way of looking at your world, but some of this "conditioning" or "lessons" learned have stronger applications at one time vs. another, depending on your question you bring to the Tarot, stones, runes, etc. Just because a month ago, the reading was such and such, does not necessarily mean, the reading will be the same if done right now, kind of thing.

I do readings for myself with stones based on the 3 faces of the Goddess, Maiden, Mother & Crone. I also have Wolf Cards based on the Four Directions and when done in conjunction with a stones reading, can augment indications of where I'm at regarding a particular question. My daughter does Tarot readings with a variety of decks, and is very good at it. I don't tend to seek out others, besides my DD and myself, to do readings for me, personally, and I only read for those who take it seriously. It's not a party-time activity for me.

I'll read further on the board and introduce myself. :)

Hi, back! :) Thanks for the welcome!

"We leave ourselves a little vulnerable when letting a stranger read for us. What if that person has negative energies and influences and doesn't care about keeping them out (or perhaps even encourages them)."

I think the vulernability having a stranger do a reading for us isn't so much because of their negative energies or influences, because I don't see that as dangerous other than in messing up your reading by putting their own perspective on the results of the reading, and their interpretation of it, rather than being open to only interpreting based on *you.* It is a gift to be a Tarot reader or to be good with other divination tools, IMO. It's not something everyone can do. Picking a person to do a reading of Tarot for you is an intuitive one, IMO. There are many fakes out there interested only in the money, who really have not studied Tarot and are not "open" and "aware" enough to do accurate interpretations. This includes those who treat readings as a lark or for fun, disrespecting it and using it as a game. Long ago, I did find someone who I met at a Renaissance Faire, that I paid to read for both my DD and I. I had visited many booths at this faire, but only this one woman struck me as being a true reader. We didn't get the reading there. We made an appt. and went to her home, a 3 hour drive for us, and received her readings there. I was at a major crossroads in my life at that time, but didn't say anything to her about it. Her reading was right on and enabled me to step back and understand the patterns in my life that were affecting my perceptions about the choices before me.
