Ways that God Communicates With Us

In what forms do your messages from God come? When we pray or ask for answers from our higher power or our Spirit Guides, do we look for them to come in words? If you open up your mind to receive these messages in different ways, you may be surprised at how often they speak to us. This is from the first in the series of "Conversations with God", and I want to share because it makes sense to me.
Words are limiting. God can communicate to you through feeling, "Feelings are the language of the soul". If you want to know what's true for you about something, look to how you're feeling about it. Hidden in your deepest feelings is your highest truth. Feelings are sometimes hard to figure out and it takes some searching to get to your true feelings.
Here are other ways God communicates to us:
Thought (different from feelings)
Experience
Our senses ~ smell, taste, touch, sound, sight
Has anyone recognized the way God has communicated to them? Or how their spirit guides have communicated to them?

Sometimes I just know...
" I think lots of folks have a preconceived notion of what they want the answer to be, so even though they get an answer, they don't hear it because it's not the one they want or expect.
Another good discussion, Cara!

Cara,
It sounds like your dogs love you very very much.
Don't you just love animals?
Great questions! :)
I agree that words are limiting. I don't "hear" my Goddess and God with my ears, or experience "words" in my head, at all. It's more an inner knowing after "laying it all out there" in meditation or ritual, kind of thing. I "talk" to Her and to the God, in my head, asking questions or for protections, guidance or blessings. The "answers" come with synchronicity, a book falls on the floor at my feet at a bookstore, I cross paths with a person or animal or experience that "answers" my question or points me in the direction I need to go. I can just be doing just about anything after my "questioning" and suddenly like a light going on in my Spirit, the answer is before me, where there was nothing but questioning or confusion, before. I have learned to trust my intuition and inner wisdom and voice in my later years of life, after many years of struggle trying to do so. The answers aren't "out there" as Fox Mulder says, but "in here." :D I have a deep trust, now, too. That the answer *will* come, or the spell *will* work. I just put the energy out there, and trust the right and best outcome for me, will follow. It does! Sometimes it's hard to discern that the "answer" has arrived, but I'm learning to stay calm within the storm of daily existence rather than get "wound up" about worries or concerns or problems. I do what I can do IRL, and spiritually, and then I trust. It's an amazing journey! :D

Hi new here. I participated in a thread recently on another board that covered this very same topic.
I think God (whoever he is) communicates with us all of the time and I think we all have unlimited access to do so. I don't think it matters who you believe God(ess) to be or what name you ascribe, God, Goddess, Allah etc.
I think this communication can happen by traditional ways like prayer, meditation I think also through divination, intuition. If we listen to that still small voice wether you call it the holy ghost, conscience or jiminey cricket there is much to learn.
Just my .02 =)
Very astute, jillian...
Hey y'all! I'm new here (I think...I've been at ivillage awhile but don't think I've ever posted on this board before). I've kind of been reading here off and on for the past few weeks after not having been on ivillage for many moons but when I saw this post, I had to pipe up:-). I love, love, love discussions like this! (*love* those Conversations with God books, by the way--they made sense to me too!)(although, I have to tell ya--I agreed with God on 99% of everything he told Neale except for (and I'm sure god's already very aware of this:^) some of his ideas about public education...I'm a teacher....so we'd have to sit down and work that one out, lol! ;-)
I'm a Unity Christian (we like to call ourselves "Unitics" :-P) so, I'm of the school of thought that says if you want to "hear" God, meditation is the best way to do that...prayer is when we talk, meditation is when we listen. But I also think that God "speaks" to us in other ways (b/c people are notoriously poor listeners:0)--through people we meet, experiences we have, dreams, etc etc. We just have to be open and willing to listen...and accept the message even if it's the opposite of what we were hoping for.
I have had some crazy experiences that have only left me very confident that "something" greater than ourselves is out there and cares--whether you call it God/Goddess, Allah, Yahweh, or the Unversal Mind.
I have really enjoyed reading a lot of the messages on this board---in fact, I'm about to go answer some of your fun-looking Sunday 7 posts :^)
Hugs,
Amy
