Hey everyone, this is my first time posting to this board. Let me introduce myself. My name is Ila. I'm posting to this board today because I have a question that I would like to hear some of your thoughts about. It's about the earthqukes that happened over in Asia. Does anyone think this was an act of God?? the reason why I have asked this question is because a co-worker asked me about it one day. My co-worker said she has a friend that is very spirtual. And he told her during a conversation that he was suprised that religest people weren'tcoming forth and saying it was an act of God because people have been killing christians in indoneshia I looked it up on google and its true about the killings. Also, I think it's great the the U.S. is trying to help out but the one thing that bothers me is that it seems that the U.S. doesn't consern it's self with the problems that go on in that part of the world until something like this happens. Example I just finshed watching a news report about how childern over there are kiddnaped and sold as sex slaves and how after tusumi there are human trafficers who are trying to find orphaned childern to do this terriable act to. This has always went on over there, how com the U.S. has never had any news reposts asking people to help with donations and such to stop this from happening to these childern? just now? does anyone understand were I'm coming from?? non the less my thoughts, prayrs, and well wishes go out to all the victums.

You're not the only one confused Cyn. I can remember asking as a child why Christians and Jews can't get along since Jesus WAS a Jew. Doesn't that make them some sort of cousin? Same for God/Allah. I've always believed that all names for 'God' (the Divine, Spirit, Deity... whichever you prefer) were just different names for one and the same.

Where I am (California) firecrackers are forbidden all the time, for everyone, because of safety. But there are other 'safe and sane' alternatives. They're only available to BUY the week before 4th of July, but they're legal to set off any time. Maybe that's something your BF's cousin could check into. No idea about the candles though; that doesn't make sense. I don't think the rules are specifically against any religion though. My guess is it's a safety issue, per the Fire Marshall. And people just get away with it on Halloween and Christmas, maybe because the Fire Marshall isn't around. I see that kind of thing a lot.

As for the feeling of peace and security... I think it'll be a long time before we as Americans get back to where we were. A generation at least. This was the first time since the Civil War that we've had fighting on the mainland. It was a huge shock for us as we'd had a false sense of security. I attribute that to both arrogance and ignorance. Sad really. But from the people I've talked to, the majority don't blame or have hard feelings against the *people* of the Middle East. (And yes, the whole region tends to be blurred into one.) They blame the extremist groups and governments, our own included.

Not sure what the answers are, but I haven't given up hope.
