How do you handle it?

When you pray very hard, seek guidance and work with your Higher Power, work Magic and something doesn't happen the way you want it to, how do you handle that? Is it your Higher Power's fault? Did you not "do it right" (the praying or Magic or mundane efforts)? Is that a "signal" that you ask for the wrong thing? On your spiritual path, how do you interpret such a situation?

I guess there are different ways to approach this sort of thing from the outset.... I can't think of the last time I prayed/asked/worked magic to get a particular outcome.

I think I might be a religious humanist (still trying to decide what the heck I am, lol)...
I don't really ask a higher power for anything, except maybe guidance to do the right thing or to understand why things are happening the way they are.

If things don't turn out the way I want them to, I assume it's because they weren't supposed to - either I needed to learn something from it, or in the long run it was for the best (but at this point, not being able to see into the future, it just doesn't look that way right now).

Did that make ANY sense? If not, I do have examples from my own life which may help make my point, just ask!

"Wishing and hoping" for something isn't the same as prayer in my belief system, so if things don't work out

I pretty much agree with what's you've all posted so far... ;)

I am hear to evolve, learn lessons in my journey to evolve as a spiritual being, set my Karmic debt back in balance, work with others in their journeys. I am humble enough to know I can't always see *all* the ramifications before moving in a particular direction, making a decision. While my deities have given me personal power, magic and other tools to effect changes in my reality here, they are not in charge of making it all work for me. :P It is *my* responsibility and I need to accept that.

Edited to add: I don't think there is "blame" attached if what I try to set in motion with mundane efforts and/or magic, doesn't happen. It just *is,* without that duality either/or value judgment. Learn. Grow. Evolve. I don't believe that's possible if everything goes according to "my" plan. :D

Hi gypsy, I'm new here but I'd like to add something to the other posters if you don't mind. It is my belief that we always get what we ask for though we are sometimes unaware that we are giving out mixed messages. As an example I am often short of money and would love to have more so that I could work less which would give me more freedom to do the things I would prefer to be doing but I know that isn't going to happen until I get my belief system about money sorted out. You see I'd like more and I often "ask" for more because to me it conciously represents having the freedom I want but if I examine my subconcious views (a product of my childhood!!) I know that sayings like "money is the root of all evil", "you don't get anything unless you work for it" and even for those that have managed to move out of the poverty trap and get some "he's getting too big for his boot, he wants to remember where he came from" all pop up into my head. It's no wonder therefore that my finances are on a bit of a rollercoaster constantly going up and down, but I'm working on it and trying to believe that money isn't really the evil I was brought up to believe it is and things are starting to even themselves out somewhat. So maybe if whatever it you conciously wanted doesn't turn out as you would have liked maybe you could evaluate what your 'true' feelings are about it because clearing out some old ideas can really turn things round. Hope this helps.
