Hi everyone,
I'm almost 30, have been married for a couple of years, no kids...
My hubby shocked the socks off me last night. He was cooking, and calmly turned to me and said that he'd accepted Jesus as a Lord and Savior. He was raised Catholic, and never really asked questions or searched for deeper meaning. I was raised in a Presbyterian church, but was never baptized and rarely go to church, but I've taken a lot of classes about religion and have been a seeker for a few years.
I'm filled with hope and wonder at his decision and declaration! I've never accepted Jesus, but have only been a few inches away from doing it...that leap of faith thing...that's tough for "intellectual" people... Wait, that came out wrong...not that intellectual people are better or anything, just that people who analyze every decision and think about things (think of the difference between academicians and practitioners) find it harder to make that leap of faith.
Now that he's done it, I feel like we can move forward as a team seeking truth.
Does anyone have any idea of where we go now????? Most of the time, church people congratulate you when you accept Jesus, and then the new convert is just left there... What do we do? I have a NIV study bible at home, but have no idea how to go about reading it. We're on this path now, and I'm so excited I can hardly stand it.
What can we do to start our search??????????????????????????????????????
Thanks!
Tracie

Starting a new path is always exciting. It's a new adventure. Are you interested in finding a parish near you? Maybe one with a study group. I also recommend reading everything you can get your hands on. Visit your local library and see what they've got. Mine has a pretty impressive Religion & Mythology section considering I'm in such a small town. Next stop would be your local Christian bookstore. Don't discount the fiction section. I've picked up tons of new ideas and inspiration through novels.
Good luck on your journey!
Tracie,
I was raised Catholic also but accepted Christ when I was an 18 year old college freshman. That was 33 years ago and I have never regreted that decision nor have I had second thoughts as an intellectual. I was an honor student, studying biology. I have also defended my faith around other intellectuals as I went on through graduate school in Botany. Eventually God led me into Christian ministry and I went to seminary too! I still feel a sense of wonder as I look back and see what the Lord has done in my life.
Where to now, you ask. Read the Bible, start with the Gospel of John. Find a Bible-believing church that will encourage and disciple you as you grow in your relationship with Jesus. That's what Christianity is, a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. For a friendship to grow, you need to spend time together. So spend time with God through reading His Word, praying, and fellowshipping with other believers.
I've attended several different churches over the years - I have been a Baptist for nearly 30 years now. I attend a relatively small Southern Baptist Church in a small town in Montana (not the Bible belt!) Having a church that will support and nurture you makes all the difference. It is hard to go it alone.
God bless you as you seek Him. The word says " You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:13 Continue to seek Him.

P.S. I'm a newbie to this board, hope I helped
