YAY! DH decided...

on our DD's religious education!  He is an atheist, so this is tough on him.  We have been talking about it beacuse she will be 3 in June, and she will soon start asking why mommy and daddy don't go to church.  I have never been brought to a church, and had a chance to learn what I believe.  I DO believe there is God, and have even felt him.  I have been wanting to explore my own spirituality for a long time now.  We have decided that going to a Universalist church, at first anyways, will be a good way to introduce religion to our DD.  Does anyone else have any advice for me as a parent first learning about religion myself?

Thanks!

From the little bit I know about the Universalist Church, I think it's a good start. You will be exposed to many different beliefs, possibly, besides Christianity, and get a nice exposure to respectful combinations. ;) That's a good first step. Perhaps if something connects strongly with your spirit and heart when going to the services, about any particular religion, that will become a nudge to you to delve into some personal study about that particular religion, also. :P

Just a side comment. There is nothing wrong with NOT taking your child to church during childhood, if neither of you feel drawn to any particular religion or church or temple or tradition. You can teach the Golden Rule, respect and tolerance and compassion without religious training. Atheists do that all the time. ;) Just a thought. Don't feel just because you are a parent, that your child MUST have a religious upbringing to be "complete."

I wish you well on your path and exploration! :)
