"The Sweet Spirit
Chocolatier Katrina Markoff makes a connection between the spirituality of yoga and her favorite gourmet truffles.

By Donna Freitas

Any chocolate lover can tell you stories of worshipping at its sweet, syrupy altar. Put before us in a moment of weakness, celebration, post-traumatic breakup, or following a decadent meal, it is useless to resist temptation. While famously excessive Bridget Jones has a penchant for imbibing large amounts of alcohol and far too many cigarettes, for many of us, chocolate is our sin of choice.

But what if we could reconcile this sweet indulgence with our spiritual lives? If, through eating a chocolate, we could enhance our spiritual practices? Might that shift our sense of chocolate from vice to transformative virtue?

....."

Interesting? ;)

One of the daily meditations in Simple Abundance talks of a fellow author's favorite meditation: eating and fully focusing on an expensive chocolate truffle. It's all about living in the moment. :-D

To what extremes will we go to justify our hormonal cravings for chocolate!

You can't beat Hershey's, that's for sure! LOL! :P Well, maybe with a Nestle's Crunch bar.... ;)

I've never been much of a chocolate eater okay I confess to eating chocolate covered cherries/raisins...or 7 layer cake from Star Bakery. mmmmmmmm

A big old bar of caramel would work just fine...no need for the chocolate covering:) Loved the movie Chocolat! Johnny Depp...now that is better than chocolate!!!!

Hershey's... YUM. You know, there's something about Hershey's, though, that always makes me cough!

"I have also found that the very expensive gourmet stuff isn't nearly as good as a plain old Hershey bar when it comes right down to it!"

I so agree!! I think the expensive stuff is too high in butterfat or something, too rich. For me, it's gotta be Hershey's. Not Nestle. Not Ghiradelli. Hershey's. Mmmmm...

Sorry ladies but I have to disagree wholeheartedly I'm afraid because when it comes to chocolate you most definitely cannot beat Cadburys :))

I have tried Hersheys but it didn't come close for me. I used to like Rowntrees chocolate when I was a kid but then they got bought out by Nestle and I'm not keen on their chocolate so all the things I used to love as a kid just don't taste the same for me.

It probably comes down to what you grew up with and I don't even know if you have Cadburys chocolate in the USA but believe me if you don't you are really missing out (lol)

As far as I know (and I'm probably wrong! LOL) we only get the Cadbury eggs at Easter time. And those I find far too rich. I think you're definitely right that it's what we grew up with. Good point!

Cadbury's chocolate is very rich (which is probably why I love it lol) so its best to only have a small amount at a time :-)

They sell the "big" Cadbury bars in the super markets, but I still prefer Hershey's, particularly their Symphony bars!
