Having to choose...

Hi everyone,
I've come to a fork in the road and I'm confused on what to do. I will be certified to teach this September. I was offered to commit to a school last week after doing a demo lesson for them. I told the principal that I need time to think it over because I also have other schools to visit. I did like the school and I could see myself working there to start off for a few years but I'm holding in waiting for the school that I did my student teaching in to call me for an interview because they are just going through resumes now. However, today, I got thinking and panicked a little...what if I'm waiting for the other school to contact me and they don't and then I let this other school go and then when I call them back, the position is taken! Anyone else ever have this dilemma in making a choice over something? I wish I could look inside a crystal ball and see what the future holds!!

Hi, cabje.
Since you already have a relationship with the one you did student teaching with, CALL them. Talk to whoever is in charge of hiring (I'd assume the principal) and just tell them up front that you've been offered this other position but would really rather work there, and do they think they'll have anything for you. The fact that you're showing the initiative to go for what you want will make you look even better in their eyes, and the fact that you've already taught there will probably give you an advantage as well. But don't sit back and just wait. The two schools may be on very different hiring schedules. It's just not worth risking losing that opportunity.
Good luck!
