Hi, I'm Naomi I am a displaced Unity church addict ! We moved from our old, fantastic church a year ago, and I haven't been to very many churches in my new town, but the one's I've been to don't hold a candle to my old one.
I wasn't raised in a church, but had faith in a God from young. My DH and I found Unity 4 years ago and went every week except for illness or vacation for three years until we moved. Thats how well we fit ( it wasn't necessarily the people either).
Does anyone have an idea of alternitive churches for us to try? Please help , my 6 yo has given up asking when we are going to church, I feel bad for her ( and us ). The Unity here is 50 members and old and stodgey .I don't think we really fit with highly evangelical churches. Thank you , Naomi

I am a Unity person. Hard to think of Unity as old and stodgy.
Maybe they need your energy, start there what you want to see there.
They will love your energy, Unity seems open to that, do a group,
do a meditation service in the evening, find a speaker to come, ask
Maryanne williamson for advice, she is the minister of Detroit unity.
Start a womens' and mens' group. Talk to the minister, Find musicians.
Our music is always so good.
Maybe it is the saying, " let it start with me" or else is there a UU
nearby??????? Love, Leila

Thank you for your insight, I honestly hadn't even thought about trying to get what I want out of the local Unity.
They have only about 5 kids there, we want a younger church for my kids, so that put us off.
The minister said he was celebrating his 20 years there, and they have 50 people. When he announced 20 years no one stood up and cheered. Stodgy and conservative was what struck me ( and my DH).
But you are right, I really wasn't living my Unity beliefs. I will be praying for a whole bunch of young families to come in and join. For the childrens group to become more dynamic (I will have to help). I am going to put my energy into getting the church I want. Pray for us won't you? Thanks again, Naomi

Hi Naomi,
I did go to a Unity church in another town that
never got more than 25 people---the minister lived
in the church, interesting bldg and she had a business there,
rented space for catering etc. I did get bored with it, she had good messages
but I wanted to meet new people. I love our unity, may try UU to meet more people.
My heart will always be with Unity. You could even tell the minister what you would like
and see the response. How far away is the next Unity to your home??? leila

read another report might add wife and I visited unity ,enjoyed vegitarian meals and some of the lectures, responded one time and electrified the whole audiance in which all week long several aproach us for fellowship. and even change one person life that we know of. It is my understanding that one who becomes a minister thru unity that headquarters has no control over the local unity meetings( maybe now?) and having visited one in Chicago, and Kenosha Wisc, etc well anyway there is a very important person who worked there and later set up a liveable school of christianity. Also the Metaphysic dictionary of Unity has some very good information under Jesus ,Lord Christ Jesus and the process etc. and others in the book. incidently I would like to get more copies to give to some people here ira
