The quest for meaning... /m

A passage in a book recently caught my attention (and now, of course, I can't find it again) about the human need for meaning. It really struck a chord with me. I realized as I read it that *meaning* is exactly what I've been searching for the last several years. Exactly what I feel is missing from my life, that I just couldn't put my finger on.

So my question is, do you feel like YOUR life has meaning? Do you feel there's some great purpose in your being here? And if so, have you found it?

I'm sure my answer will depend on my frame of mind, lol.

I don't think there's any ONE great big meaning we're here for, I think it evolves, even changes, as you learn life's lessons.

At the moment, as the mother of 2 preschoolers, I feel my meaning is to raise them to be responsible, thoughtful, kind, GOOD adults. I'm guessing that meaning will wane as they get older.
I also seem to be seeking 'earthly' meanings, and am thus up to my eyeballs in environment & community related causes (I'm trying to get the Freecycle "word" out there, arranging nature-and-environmental-based outings for my kids & their classmates, I'm currently trying to convince my county that they don't NEED to dispose of all those hazardous chemicals...we'll see how that goes)

So at least for me, right now, I feel I'm addressing my "callings" as best I can....I do wonder what my next search for meaning will reveal!

I've wondered about that too Shyla... whether we're just here to experience Life. I read the first of a trilogy a couple years ago called 'Conversations With God' that was along those lines. It was comforting at the time because I've never really felt any sort of calling. There was never any one thing that as a child I thought "I want to be that when I grow up!" I just sort of feel like I'm drifting aimlessly.

I have a favorite affirmation on my bedroom wall which I read regularly.

So my question is, do you feel like YOUR life has meaning? ***Absolutely, yes!

Do you feel there's some great purpose in your being here? ***Yes!

And if so, have you found it? ***Returning to my faith in God. My purpose is to learn His teachings, about my Faith, and to practice my Faith with my whole heart and mind. If I can do that, then I am the best person I can be for my DH, DD, my friends and my family. Everything will fall into place. :)
