America vs. the Muslim world?

I don't know about everyone else, but there has been quite a bit of incidences lately of supposed "misunderstandings" between nations of the Muslim world and America that definitely concern me.
The Newsweek article, for one, really opened my eyes to something that has seemed to be going on for some time under the radar. Whether it is true or not, we ticked off alot of Afghanistan people to the point were there is much more hatred of American values.
It's a lose-lose situation for us because everything that comes out seems to be directed to all Americans and it seems like there is a start of an uprising against the American people and government. I don't know if it is a way for extremists to gain momentum for the Holy War they are plotting against America, or if Americans are at fault for not respecting their religious beliefs, but it makes me nervous.
Just like a certain amount of Americans are blaming all Muslims for the world's turmoil, it seems more Muslims are doing the same with us. This is very concerning to me because bad blood tends to cause wars and, if anything more happens, terrorism, wars, etc...are going to become more frequent.
How do you feel about this? Do you think we should do more to keep the peace because it seems our government tends to sugar coat the adversity between our nations. Besides the Newsweek article, there seems to more uprising in Iraq against our troops and it is starting to look like a domino effect. What would happen next?
I know this is a scary thought, but, being that we are a board of unity of many religions, I think it is important for us to discuss this. What makes you get along with no predjudice against others on the board who think differently than you? There may be a link to our little board that could save millions of Americans and Muslims from losing their lives over difference of religion.
I know this is a tough one, but, as I said before, it is really important. It's easy to turn away from issues that seem uncomfortable, but sometimes it is important to tackle and discuss them head on for peace and unity in this world. Like they say, just one person can make a difference!

Also, we need to get back to a bipartisan governement. Too many Republicans in office and too many democrats in office always cause trouble.
We also need to stop pushing our beliefs on other countries and not include religion in our decisions when it comes to problems in the world. If we do, we are doing what muslim extremists are...choosing our beliefs over the beliefs of others.
Brit, fear is what caused all this..after 9/11, it was pounded into our heads. Things are going to happen sometimes and we never will be fully safe. If we constantly dwell on worrying, we will never be able to become a peaceful nation again. I just hope that enough people see what we see. Unfortunately, I have noticed that more people are taking the Christian extremist route instead of tolerating different religions even if they don't necessarily believe it. I am very nervous because there is so much more of an uprising in American hatred lately and it is caused by only a few that take it too far.I hope things will cange, but I see something drastic happening before it does. I really hope I am wrong
Bink, I agree with what you say about those 'gentlemen' ;-)
I used to work in a huge conglomerate organisation with divisions worldwide and I know exactly what you mean. We laugh at those kinds of antics too. They take themselves far too seriously and seem to think that 'breeding' (for want of a better word) somehow makes them superior to others. They need to get over themselves and relax more, but the sad thing is that many would probably like to but they don't know how, although others wouldn't want to change.
The place I worked had no women on the board either and that was made even more strange when you consider the size of the company - you'd think at least one would manage to slip through the net and make it to the top, but it didn't happen. The sad thing is that these are often the most forward thinking and trail blazing companies in many areas and yet they don't even give basic equality rights to half of the world let alone 'minorities'.

I don't know if the brits as whole actively 'dislike' Americans or like much of the world feel intimidated by their power and that feeling of intimidation should never be underestimated because that is what creates much of the fear and hate in society.
But you are right of course, the British aren't perfect no country is and that is the problem. Everyone is busy looking at what is wrong with other countries/cultures/ways of life etc that they forget to look inside and see what is wrong at home. It is not just the British that are pointing fingers, it is everyone and so we have all got caught up in circle where everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else and if all had guns rather than fingers to point the whole circle would be wiped out.
The fact that people are willing to talk about these things, to debate the hard issues such as this and to own up to imperfections on forums such as this is exciting and is what gives us hope for the future.
I haven't seen the article originally referred to, but I grew up in the 1970s when IRA bombings were unfortunately a way of life in this country and although there haven't been any in recent years the threat of further acts of terrorism hasn't completely diminished.
