Hi, I'm new here and I was just wondering if anyone here has read any of the books by Sylvia Browne? Would anyone here describe themselves as a Gnostic? I would really like to know what you think about them.. I started reading them about a year ago and I really like what she says.. I do what it says in her books "Take what you want and leave the rest behind".. but I find that I believe a lot of what she says in her books.. I'd really like to discuss this with some people that are interested in this... Thanks!

Hi there! I am new here also and just happened to catch your post. I have read most of Sylvia's books and I can almost certainly say she has changed my life and my perspective on life and love and God. Right now I am reading her Book of Angels. I would say after all of the reading I've done with her and others, it does seem as though I fit the Gnostic belief. I would love to learn more about her church, Novus Spiritus. I have also read John Edward, James Van Praagh, and many others. I have learned so much more about God than I ever did in my own religion that I spent 14 years in (LDS). The first book I read of Sylvia's was Blessings from the Other Side and it just made me cry and feel a true love and faith in God for the first time in my whole life. My email is stefsnyd@hotmail.com if you'd like to talk further about these things. I would love to have someone to discuss this with. I feel very strongly in all she has to say. Wishing you well. Hey you two! May I ask you, if you don't mind, to have the conversations here? I'm unfamiliar with this author & what she's saying, and would love to hear a discussion about it!
(I don't read books due to my vision impairment - just too much for the ole eyes!)

And welcome to you both!

Me too! Me too! LOL The name rings a bell, but I've not read any of her books. The Gnostic belief does intrigue me. That'll probably be one of the next directions I go exploring. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you've read so far. And I'll second that welcome! :-D

Hello everyone, Lorax and ginger cookie, I'll stay here, no problem. I'll try to give you info about Sylvia. She is a psychic medium, she's in her sixties so she's had a lifetime of experiences with helping find missing people, giving future prophecies, past life regression hypnosis, etc etc. She is on Montel Williams almost every Wednesday helping people. Her books are full of so much I don't think I could get it all here. Spirit guides, angels, the Other Side, our loved ones who have crossed over, our purpose here, our purpose There, God (of course), Mother God, learning to love ourselves and others, meditations, prayers, past life, reincarnation. If you can, Lorax, please acquire some of her audio tapes (they are cheap on half.com).
Her basic simple message for all of us: Love.
I would love to get to know you all, this has become a passion of mine and I would like to have people to share things with. John Edward is very good also, and if I could recommend any books that leave you feeling incredibly good, is is James Van Praagh, Talking to Heaven, Return to Heaven, and Heaven and Earth. The messages for us in those books are remarkable. Again, it all boils down to love and God. Our loved ones who have passed are eternally happy and are waiting for us. I no longer fear death in any way. I feel such truth and faith in what Sylvia and the others have to say.
I am now reading "Prophecy", it is very good. Another person to read about is Edgar Cayce, he was an extraordinary medium who helped thousands of people.
I'm sorry if I'm not very eloquent, I do my best. :-)
Happy to be here and get to know you all, please ask me anything. I've just about read all of Sylvia's books now.

I've read her books. Although sometimes when I see her on shows, she seems to discredit herself, she does have some good ideas in her teachings. I do believe in Mother God and, being a Gnostic Christian also means you believe that Mary Magdalene was at the least, one on Jesus' top disciples. I read everything spiritually-linked though, and come to my own conclusion. Many of her beliefs come from the Nag Hamadi(don't know if I spelled it right!) scrolls. I will always think that Jesus highly respected women and the Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene were very highly regarded in his eyes. It is so hard to really understand what religion, of any sort, is because man has put their own views and interpretations into all main religions. I think the best thing to do is educate yourself as much as you can, and make your own conclusions. Sylvia Brownes' books do make you think and are very interesting.

I've got so many books on my bookshelf that I haven't got round to reading lately and I keep buying more that I had to actually look through to check out if she was on there or not!! I know I haven't actually read any but I've definitely seen her in the book shops and I wasn't sure if I'd bought one or not. As it turned out I didn't have any of hers but will definitely consider adding her to my library soon.

Can I ask though what a Gnostic is? It sounds intriguing but I've never heard of it before.

Hi... Gnostic comes from the Greek word gnosis meaning knowledge... it basically means that you're a truth seeker (searching for the truth about God). It also has to do with understanding faith.. If anyone else can elaborate on this, I'd appreciate it... This is all somewhat new to me, so my explaination probably isn't too great..

Hello, thanks for the welcomes, I appreciate it. It's nice to meet you all. Jbarron, you said the Gnostic belief just right. Sylvia elaborates on that by saying we all should be able to worship God however, whenever, wherever we wish. If we so choose to do this at home, then so be it. We do not need the four walls of a chapel to worship. God lives within us, is a divine spark in each one of us and so to love Him and one another can be accomplished any where. God is not inside a church, He is everywhere and in everyone.
Cara Ivy, hi! Nice to meet someone on this "journey" also! Mine is about three years, I think, but I believe it may have started long ago in my childhood because I've always had a profound interest in the after life.
Another point of the Gnostic belief I really like is that no one is telling me to give them money, no one is saying don't drink this or do that, no one is telling me to do strange rituals to be able to enter Heaven. All I have to do is simply love God and love myself and others. It has really helped me with being judgemental and looking beyond a person's exterior and finding their real soul beneath.
The books I would recommend of Sylvia's that I have read are the Journey of the Soul series, there are three. They are very enlightening to me.
My email is stefsnyd@hotmail.com
Take care all
Stephanie
