THIS is the day..

I've heard it a thousand times:  This is the day the Lord has made, or some equivalent of it.  Recently I have been hearing it differently than in the past, and it is changing the way I start my day.

It is a matter of emphasis on the word "this."  I am reminded that I can't change yesterday, that tomorrow will take care of itself, and that today, THIS day, is a new beginning.  Remembering that time has no value in spirit, my little praise affirmation and thank you takes no more than a few seconds, and then I know that all is well.

Do you have a day opener?  Do you always remember to use it?  Do you see a difference in your day when you do?

I used to do that.

Yes, I always open my day by lighting a candle and giving thanks for the many Blessings in my life. Sometimes I'll speak them out loud, sometimes I'll add in a request for Divine Wisdom or Assistance with a particularly troublesome issue, sometimes I just quiet myself for a moment and allow Spirit to share my feelings. But always I take a moment just to pause and give thanks.

Many times I get so wrapped up in things I don't think to do something as a day opener, but I like the concept very much.

It is something I often mean to do and is also something I am sure would add depth and lightness to my day but like a lot of other things I am usually so 'busy' getting up showered, dressed etc that I 'forget' to do it. I really must try harder to start my day with an uplifting affirmation. If anyone knows a good one, please share.

That's why I have the candle. Seeing it sitting there is a tangible, physical reminder to me to stop and take that moment. Otherwise, I'd rush right through too and never give it a thought. I'm not normally one for any sort of formality, but this does seem to work for me.

I always open my day with a prayer, thanking the Lord for all of my many blessings, and asking for strength and protection throughout my day.

Uh-Huh...I use the Serenity Prayer...but I usually say it at the end of the day, right before I go to sleep...mornings are too crazy at my house.

I don't normally have a chance when I first get up because hearing the kids in the living room is usually gets me out of bed. But I have to take a shower in the morning or I can't get on with the rest of my day. It is the only time for me when I am not being interrupted by one of my kids and, being Pagan, it is an important part of our rituals to cleanse, so I pray to the God and Goddess in the shower when everything is quiet for me! May sound strange, but it works for me!

Thanks virgogirl I love the idea of praying in the shower. It is already a part of my daily ritual to take a shower (I know I can hear you all saying thank goodness for that lol) so it would be a perfect time to cleanse my mind as well as my body. I really love this idea, thank you sooooooo much :)
