How did the spiritual side start

I am waiting to leave to meet a new man,
early 60's but kids 9 nd 11, (yikes) his young wife
died. Have been reading people's childhoods in the interim.
I found it interesting and fun. People come to life. Somewhere in our
pasts the light went on about higher consciousness
What brings us there? I'm sure it is all different for all of us.
Does it have to be thru pain??????? leila

I have also half given up. I am wondering if
it is because I am feeling so good i am magnetizing.
I magnetized a guy last week with a big belly who had 3 wines with dinner, who like to
travel all the time, I'd be living out of a suitcase. (I like home.)
a man who was somewhat interesting back from Slovakia. short, too old for me. He took
out a nail clipper and cut a cuticle at the dinner table.
One who said he is dating another lady but is writing because he has no commitment to her yet,
the one this eve has a son with mega problems, still sleeps with dad, the school pressured him
to get the boy in another bed. man goes to UU, that's good but what a package!!!!!
what bed would I sleep in. hehe
I am taking the spiritual side, the universe will provide what is meant to be.
I don't go out of my way to meet men any more. That is new for me. Hey, about time.
I am on match.com, yahoo, e-harmony that sends ya guys from Alaska, Jdate
at my cousins pushing. Something got screwed up with a meeting
with a man from Jdate because
he is into bees and the queen bee died, all related to the Smithsonian. hehe. Met my last
2 boyfriends on the computer or the dateline magazine that is no longer in exixtence.
Now I am love with my 2 kittens, my grandson, my friends, work, myself and I trust.
Maybe it is a blessing to be free from problems with men, to be with myself and be happy.
It took a long time for that. I am a late bloomer. I am still in awe to feel like this.
I have been constantly grateful. The rest, healing time before
the next grieving, death or whatever life brings. Anyways, my kittens are faithful!!!!!!!!
Don't give up, the universe hears what is in our hearts. Love, Leila

My spiritual journey began in earnest while I was taking a Bethel Bible course about 12 years ago.

I think that most people probably experience a stronger sense of the spiritual through a painful event (death, illness, etc.) but it certainly is not a necessity!

Leila, I cracked up over your descriptions of the single men out there...OMG...men haven't changed a whole lot since I "gave up" the single life ;) many years ago...ok, now I have this vision of a guy clipping his whatever at dinner! Ewww...

If you get tired of singles fare, I'm sure there are many more married men looking for a little excitement...though some of these only "date" other married women, because they can't ask for the big C--Commitment, LOL. Also, they can't tell either, lest they incur the wrath of their own husbands...

Oh, good question! Let's see...it must have been after sitting through countless masses said in Latin (Couldn't understand a word) and going through the motions at Catholic services...(forgive me for what I'm about to say) but, ya know, I never really bought the whole suffering now for joy in the afterlife thing...I find Christianity to be seriously limited IMHO...so, I began to wonder if there was something more???

And then in college, a friend gave me the Seth books by Jane Roberts and the heavens parted...I became interested in eastern religions too...what a relief to have permission to form my OWN beliefs rather than those handed down to me by my parents or the religion I was born into.

BTW, I have two kids, 9 and 11 too.

Hi Bink,
hehe, then I might as well call my X man friend who has a girl friend!!!!!!!
I have lots of funny date stories, also lots of good dinners. Then real quiet
spells. I'm Ok with it all. I give it to God, and my spirit guides and my angels.
maybe they laugh at the dates and that is why they don't send me a real guy.

When I was little, I always was looking up at the stars,
I knew I had a connection there, at 16, I decided to be
agnostic, nursing school kept that theory. When my youngest son
developed a mental illness, I changed, he was the catalyst for me to
be a better person and to start the journey. He is doing great now,
a real miracle. It was pain that has pushed me to get the spiritual help.
I agree, it is wonderful to make your own beliefs than keep the parents.'
I am Jewish, don't follow it but get teary hearing the music etc I appreciate
my heritage and others also!!!!!!!! It led me to ACIM, unity church,
women's groups, reiki, now I am a JP and do spiritual, fun weddings that
are personal with humor. The rabbis would wonder what i am doing.
I love the thoughts that we are all really equal. I think religion separates.
I actually started it all at alanon. My son is not alcoholic but I knew it was
where i belonged, it brought me to my work field also. How one thing
leads to another. Stick around long enough and you can almost see the plan. Love, Leila

Ah, that's how I felt too just before I met my husband to be...I had accepted that I might stay single for the rest of my life and that was ok by me...I had my fill of screwy dates too...jeez, I'll never forget the UPS driver who confessed that he always wore 4 pairs of underwear (!?)on our first (and only) date...or the guy who talked incessantly, even during you know what!...he barely stopped to take a breath...couldn't see myself with him--I'd have stuffed a gag in his mouth the first month...or the guy who drank too much beer and then proceeded to fart in the back seat...he was quite happy with himself! Good lord...it's a jungle out there...
