Nature and "God"

In studying hoodoo as I am, sometimes there is some debate about whether conjure is actually a slap in the face of religion. Some say that certain bible verses support the use of nature to "pray" or "conjure". Some say that certain bible verses condemn it.
What is your take on magicko religion? Or using natural magic (herbs, minerals, etc) in rituals of religion.
I think that "God" gave us all the resources in the world that he did for a reason. And since he also gave us free will, using those resources shouldn't be considered to be against religion, should it? We use drugs derived from herbs for medicines. What difference does it make to use herbs for spells and prayers related to the saints (as in hoodoo).
Any thoughts?

I'm just a "Say a prayer and have some faith" kind of gal. ^_^

I certainly believe in magick, but I'm not a spells-and-rituals kind of person. I listen to my intuition, I embrace what limited telepathic abilities I have, I visualize the outcome I want in a given situation, but I don't go as far as raising and directing energy. That's just not my path.
As for whether it's 'right' or 'wrong'... This is gonna be hard to put into words without showing some attitude so I apologize in advance for anything that comes across as offensive.
Yes, the Bible does speak out against witchcraft/sorcery. It also honors the three 'wise men.' The three 'magi.' Ummm, hello??? And what exactly ARE magi? If they were women they'd more commonly be called witches. Big contradiction there. I do understand that the REASONING behind the Church speaking out against witchcraft is the danger in an untrained, uneducated person getting themself into trouble. BUT, the pervasive attitude towards it is so negative and judgemental... well, let's just say I find THAT offensive.
Basically, I see our inborn talents and abilities as gifts of the Creator and the Bible as only the words of men. Unrelated issues btw. If I was not MEANT to communicate telepathically, I wouldn't be ABLE to. And the very fact that Spirit communicates with me in the very same manner tells me that it IS meant to be used. Same goes for any other form of magick.
Hmm... reading back over all this, I've basically just said the same thing you did. LOL I'll quit babbling now.
All one need do is look around at the thousands and thousands of different species of animals and plants right within our vision, to understand that God loves variety!
The God mind, imho, is far too pure and loving for that.
We have free reign without judgement. Whatever gives
one a connection, basil, parsley, saffron (:- ) matters not.
we are all enrgy forms here, from the rocks, insects and lizzards.
It's all about love. We all are connected even when it makes no sense.
Use whatever you want and delight in it. love, Leila

AS ABOVE, SO BELOW!
Noshy, I don't know what hoodoo is but what you describe about using herbs in rituals seems harmless enough...it's a free world after all...I get nervous when folks start pointing to the bible as the authority on how people should live...if you'll forgive my saying so, the bible has been open to much misinterpretation over the centuries...and seems as though you can use the parables, etc. to support any idea you wish, similar to the way people use statistics...stack them this way and they point in favor this idea and stack them that way and they tell you to do the opposite...
Seems to me each and every religion uses natural materials in some of its rituals, why not yours too?
I love the way you put that Bink and I totally agree.
I believe that God loves diversity and that is why we were given free choice. I certainly don't believe that free choice only exists so that we are forced to make decisions, which we only have a 50% chance of getting right many times depending on how and where we have been raised. If you feel happy with it go for it Shyla and enjoy what your doing, I think God is far more interested in us being happy and spreading that happiness around.

I think Nature is so much a part of God (and Goddess).
from todays internet//LONDON TERROR ATTACKS CARRIES STRONGEST 'OCCULT SIGNATURE' IMAGINABLE -- FROM NUMERICS TO LOCATIONS STRUCK - FELLOW OCCULTISTS WILL KNOW THAT THE 'PLAN OF THE BROTHERHOOD' IS ON TRACK
The subtitle: "Date of July 7, 2005, forms a "777", THE most powerful number to the following powerful occult groups: Black Magick system of Witchcraft developed by Aleister Crowley; and to the Kabbalah; and to the Illuminati. Areas in which bombs went off also are well known as the Black Magick areas of London. This terrorist attack carries a much stronger "occult signature" than did the attacks of 9/11."
You will be very surprised to learn of the detailed symbolism under girding these attacks, and to learn of the surprising Secret Society bearing "777" in their title! There was much, much more behind these attacks than was first apparent.
