Any Unitarian Universalists here?

Hi--I've been on a more Pagan/Wiccan path over the past couple years and have recently become interested in UU. I'm planning to attened a service in my town next weekend but was just wondering if anyone could give me a personal view of UU. I'm especially interested in UU for my children, if anyone is raising their kids UU.
Thanks! :)
Lisa

Welcome
I am Wiccan and have attended a UU church for a couple years. Though we do not have any children yet, raising our children in a UU church was a major part of our decision to join a UU church.
Recently, our coming of age group (13-years-old) were presented to the congregation and we had the opportunity to read essays on their beliefs. It ranged from Christian to Agnostic to Pagan.
Being raised Wiccan, your children will come from a different point of view than other children but, I think they will feel comfortable in a UU setting.

We're UUs also! Not much god talk at our congregation - I think one thing you'll find is that each congregation is quite different - so if you don't like one, go to another...or for that matter, if you don't like one service, go to another at the same place. We've got a lot of variety going on, and I LOVE it!
The kids are taught how to be good. Good to each other, good citizens, good to the earth... kindness, tolerance, that sort of stuff are what they're about, at least for the younger set (mine are 3 & 5). I'll tell you, the coming of agers sure did put a lot more thought into their beliefs than I did when I was confirmed RC!
Atheists sit next to monotheists and polytheists who are sitting next to humanists and wiccans at services every week. Personally, I find it very liberating and stimulating to be surrounded with like minds...who still believe different stuff from me (did that make sense?). I enjoy getting into a conversation with people who think differently than I do, without fear of being judged or "converted". As my (previously super-against organized religion) dh put it after our first UU service, UU is the "thinking man's religion". We're all continually searching for our own truth, sharing what we think, and supporting the search of everyone around us. I enjoy the fact that I can "grow" in whatever direction feels right. I suspect both dh and I will become more and more earth-based in our spirituality as time goes on.
So let us know what you think of yours - and don't give up - if this one doesn't speak to you, another one will!
Thank you for the website! Oddly enough I'm in Melrose Ma.!! Looks like a great congragation. I've actually been looking at the UU church in Andover. They have a chapter of CUUPS that celebrates the sabats and esbats along with the "normal" UU services. The UU church in Melrose is inbetween ministers at the moment and is just having more informal discussion groups lead by a different person every other week. I went to my first one this past Sunday...the subject being mysticism. It was intersting and everyone was very welcoming. So we'll see...:) Thanks again!
