Comfort:
Comfort another. Offer your hand in comfort, your heart, you home. Sing a quiet, comforting song, play a soothing melody. Comfort with words, with silence, with a loving touch. Trace a lazy circle on the cheek of a crying child. Stroke gently across the forehead of a laboring woman. Hold the hand of a dying man. Simply be present and you will know what to do. Prepare tea, cook up a pot of soup, toast up two slices of cinnamon bread. Pull the curtains and dim the lights. Draw a hot bath with rosemary oil. Fluff up a pillow, smooth out a blanket, fill the hot water bottle. Light a candle, massage and rock and hum and hold, and do nothing but be utterly human. Know that the sweetest comfort you will ever receive is the comfort you so freely give.
