Is there anyone to blame?
| Wed, 09-07-2005 - 9:23am |
Hurricane Katrina came and went. Thousands of people have been affected by nature. Over the last few weeks, I've heard the "blame" game. Who didn't get there quick enough, and why the leveys broke, and on and on. I don't believe it's as simple as any one answer. I do feel, however -- I may be wrong -- but, the United States isn't prepared for this type of emergency. This is one that simply was misjudged in its intensity.

They are still babies and helpless and so affectionate.
leave them? How are these people getting thru, I can't
believe it is our country. I am glad the shelters are taking in pets.
Too bad the boats are leaving them.
I have one little girl on my lap now purring. Love, Leila
Your such a sweetheart Leila, God better send someone for you, quick.
I just read Bankrate News, some dufussy thing to alleviate boredom...'Financial institutions are offering some leeway on repayment of credit cards for LA residents'.
Duhhhh...do ya think??? Only in America. Ghad. Where the hell am I anyway?
Business as usual I guess. Screwups.

She had the power to order all the school buses for their transportation, she did not do this,
The story I heard was that she had the busses, but no drivers, and that it was after the storm.
I'm right with you Leila. Besides my dd, my fur babies would be right along with me.
Before my beloved Chelsea (my beautiful Maltese) passed away and before my dd was born, she always let me know when a bad storm was brewing. We have a tendency to get tornados here. She would always let me know if a real tornado was coming. If she didn't act that way, we knew things were okay. But when a real one was near, she was right beside me in the bathroom. I'd never let her be alone. Now that she has passed, I had her cremated so that one day she could be laid to rest by my side. I have an angel on top of her urn. Eery, but true...when bad weather comes thru and is very severe, her little angel will move. So, I grab her and the angel and my dd and off we go to the bathroom. I trust her with me heart.
I don't know how those people are making it. Those poor animals. Did you see on Oprah that there was one doctor who took in some (I think) 200 pets in a hospital for people and said he would not leave until all were safe? He was just rescued the other day. Almost 10 days later. Pat that man on the back. God love him! What an angel!

They showed little abandoned doggies and kitties this morning on Today - it just wrenched my heart. I couldn't imagine leaving my sweet little dogs behind - It helps me to understand why some are so reluctant to leave.
Our dogs have helped in our lives so much, in particular with my my 15dd - she had such severe emotional and mental disorders when she was little and having our small dogs to cuddle with really helped sooth her so many times. These little animals are such gifts, I cry just thinking that I will one day lose them, especially my little Nala who is 6 years old next week. She is just the sweetest little protector. She's so small she really couldn't hurt anyone, but I know that with her loyalty, she would die trying.
I've been getting the ASPCA and HSUS newsletters every day, and those organizations seem to be WAY better organized and efficient at removing surviving pets than the military, police, and untold number of agencies and volunteers have been at removing surviving humans!
There's a lesson here.
You bring up a thought, Chris. You know how they say 'everything happens for a reason', perhaps what's going on with all of these animals is also a wake up call to humans. They have a 'group' soul I believe, is what it's called.
How are the animals in shelters, Animal Friends, Humane Society, pounds, any different really? I see a 'connection' to be honest. We tend not to think of these animals very often, some do of course, they work there, others do, they adopt them.
My point is...next time you drive by one of these places, think about going in (I know it smells, but rise above) and take home one of these beautiful little innocent creatures and give it your home, and your love, your sacrafice to give back to the world all the beauty life has given to you. Make room for one more there, so they too have the chance of being adopted, taken home, loved and cared for, just like they deserve. I guess I'm seeing the cycle, circle, bigger picture. Just some thoughts. Some warm little kitten whose only need and desire is to be loved and fed. Some big old ugly dog who smells bad in it's last year of life, to love and see off to better places. Let us never forget that which we give out, we receive back. These animals will be with us in heaven, we will have to look at them again one day. It doesn't have to be 'so sad'.
We have the power to do something about it right now. Makes you wonder if the world is up for the challenge.
Feeling sentimental now, and people are going...'oh, God, give us a break'...whatever.
