Past lives - how do you know?

I read thru all the thread on past lives. But couldn't really find an answer I was looking for.

I have always that I lived a past life. Today it was brought to my attention by my counselor that she also thinks I have past lives and when she performs Reiki on me she can see other, older people. Not someone from my family.

How can you find out if you've had a past life? Or where you come from if you have one? What happened, etc. This really has my curiosity peaked since someone else has brought it to my attention. I really pay attention to my dreams, as most of you know from the post below. Cara has always given me wonderful insight into these. (How is Cara doing anyway? Has anyone heard from her?)

Curiosity is getting to me,
Chris

You can find a past life certified regression therapist. If you live in a small town that may be a bit difficult.

Dr. Brian Weiss has several series of self-regression therapy tapes.

I've heard many stories about people's past lives, and it seems the majority of past life memories occur in the dream state. I know practically nothing about past lives, save that people have had experiences.
I've had many dreams where I knew something in a dream, like I knew that I was in my home, even though it's nothing like the home I live in now. And I've had dreams where I've seen myself in another time period or in a place I've never been. How can I know that it's really about one of my past lives and not just a dream?

I forgot to ask, why the interest anyway? By this I mean unless fears, phobias, anxiety issues are creeping in, there really isn't any reason to know. You could have had 100's. The life you recall isn't necessarily going to be the previous one.
Bink, you're right, the memories are contained within the cells themselves. Look up cellular memory. Neat stuff!?
Past lives aren't going to matter when you 'reach' heaven just as this life isn't going to matter either. The spirit sheds it's body in an ever evolving way so that it can get to it's God-Head. It won't matter if you were a gypsy, a millionaire, your good deeds....
asking the question how do you know if it was a past life or just a dream is not even necessary. It's all an illusion/dream anyway. I hate to bore you with the reiteration, but that's the truth. Past, present, and the future are all happening in the eternal moment of now.

I was raised with the concept of reincarnation, so it's something that's always just been a part of me, a part of my thinking.

knowing there are past lives and maybe even knowing what some of them are must serve a purpose or the concept wouldn't exist. we are all growing, seeking something more, this is a part of it. the concept can open your mind to 'what is' on a different level. no one really knows what is on the other side. i embrace the unknown.

Well, I am asking as I have been having some issues with depression, anxiety. My counselor and I have gotten into some really deep issues and some make sense, some don't. That's how our conversation came about with past lives and her doing the Reiki also. We were just discussing if some of the depression and so on could be finally coming out from a past life. I do dream constantly and most are pretty vivid. I do have alot of dreams of being chased and shot at, but yet it's not me and it is. I have a lot of violent dreams. Pretty scarey and sometimes I don't want to go back to sleep. But that's when I call upon my higher spirits to help take away the bad. It normally works.

I'm just very curious about all of this. I also believe in reincarnation. I truly believe that my daughter has had a previous life. And she does see and know some pretty interesting things, one recently being what I posted below. And she is only 4 yrs old. She is just an old soul. A very beautiful old soul.

Chris

If a past life is interfering in the quality of your present life regression therapy can help. Be careful of the therapist, you last need someone to put things there that don't belong. On James Van Praagh Resources/Practitioners page, there are some well known therapists you can trust. From everything I've read the fears, anxieties, depression are the first to pop up. Also, Brian Weiss's Many Lives, Many Masters is a great book. Ian Sevenson (sp on the last) talks of actual proof. James says we all have lived many many lives before, hence the 'old soul' theory.
It makes sense when you think about it...why would one love ancient artifacts of Egypt and another love Greek mythology, and on and on. You're drawn to what you know (but think you don't). My cousin Dave knows he was a general in a war. He has dreams regularly, he doesn't go around telling everybody, they might thim him wacked.
If all of the souls were created at the same time, they would have to be recycled given that there are only 6 billion on the planet.
Good luck with your depression/anxiety issues, hopefully you will get to the root and get on with your life.

God Bless,
Betsy

GENERAL THOUGHTS

Re: Fear of the Dark
by Thomas on 10/13/05

Hello Nimue

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said that you think this fear goes back lifetimes. Many phobias are a result of bad experiences in past lives that are still part of our cell memory.

Fears and depression can be alleviated by past life regression therapy, and many phobias can be extinguished by this therapy. Past life regression therapy cannot cause symptoms. The symptom is already there. It helps to take it away.

Also, practicing meditation and relaxation techniques helps. The phobia could be chemical (biological condition) or past life phobia, but even if it is chemical the relaxation is therapeutic.

Dr Brian Weiss, who has had over 4000 patients in the last 25 years, is an expert on not only past life regression, but in future life progressions. Dr Weiss is currently doing workshops with JVP and is a pioneer in this therapy, and has trained many more pshychotherapists in this technique. You can go to his website (brianweiss.com) and request for a list of recommended practitioners he personally knows or has trained for your location, and his secretary will send you contact information. There is much information on that site about this subject.

As far as my own experience is concerned, I have a cousin who is extremely psychically sensitive and can not only view and be part of her own past life experiences but those of others. Her husband had always had a fear of elevators, until one day when the family visited a pioneer settlement and they were dressed in period costume. At that point she went into a past life experience where she saw her husband in a mining accident in which he was killed in a shaft elevator accident. On telling her husband this, the realization that the phobia came from a previous life experience (which is in the past and not relevant to current experience) removed the anxiety and he does not have that fear any more.

If you want to learn more details about this subject, go to hayhouseradio.com (Radio For Your Soul), register your name and password, and you can access the archived shows. Go to the weekly shows, Spirit Connections with John Holland, page 2, Past Life Regressions (April 25 2005). You can listen to an hours discussion on this subject (between John Holland and Dr Weiss) in which you will learn a great deal. You can listen to the radio broadcasts while doing other things.

You will learn such things as:

Birthmarks are often the result of injuries from past lives at that location.

People can not only bring over traumas from past lives but also talents (child prodigies, etc).

Meditation can give you past life experience. It took Weiss three months, but he got a very vivid and visual experience. About 85% of people using meditation techniques eventually remember a past life.

Future memories DO occur. Past lives and future lives are occurring simultaneously. (I can expand on the concept of time if you want to know more).

More and more people are remembering past lives, as there is a greater need now.

Thank you so much for the info. I will be checking out those sites you have mentioned. It makes tremendous sense. My depression & anxiety has alot to do with fears, so I think this will help. There for a while I was doing alot of meditation, but haven't for a while. Haven't been able to concentrate. But will keep giving it a try!

Thanks again,
Chris
