Tell us about your favorite memory.  You know.. the one you often remember, sigh, and smile!  Memories are important, for they lead the pathways to who we are now!

I think about this now, especially in the wake of so many disturbing images and news.  Many can't recall good anything for their present situations weigh so heavily on their shoulders.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Hmmmm...scratching my head. ;)) I don't go back to one specific memory. Different ones pop up, depending on what I'm doing, where I am, what I'm thinking. I couldn't pick just one. And sometimes the memories that come up are not happy but melancholy and sad. All memories are important, I agree, because the experiences they symbolize, make us who we are.

I remember most the years I spent in the Sierras as a backpack consultant for a youth group, during my college summers. While I had heavy responsibilities, my life was uncomplicated. My job was clear. My community was supportive. We got along, cooperated with each other, had each other's wellbeing at heart, and our shared purpose was to help the girls grow strong within themselves, learn to be self-responsible, and that they were free to choose who they would become, who they wanted to be, what they wanted to do in their life, rather than have traditional roles and expectations hamstring them later in life. It was a spiritual and holy purpose we shared and the gift we tried to give these girls.

And we lived in beauty. Tall stands of pine and fir trees. Following dirt trails where we would only see each other, animals and natural beauty. We became close to the Earth. We understood we were part of all of life, not above it, and that our duty was to protect the Earth. There was time for solitude, conversations with the trees, the animals, and hear our own voice and our own spirit speaking to us.

It was a time of great growth, breaking through fears, and learing to hear and trust my own inner voice.

When I feel lost, manipulated, trapped and stuck in my life, I remember those years with joy.
