Asatru is the modern practice of the Old Norse Heathen religion, which was the religion of the Vikings and of the Germanic peoples. The term "Asatru" is an old Norse word meaning literally "Those Loyal to the Aesir" the Aesir being the Gods. You might be familiar with some of the gods..particulalrly Odin, Thor, Freya and Frigg. The practice centers around 9 virtues mostly having to do with loyalty, honor, truth and kinsmanship. Women are very highly regarded and alot of emphasis is put on our ansectory. Heathens tend to work out of groups called Kindreds, as we are a very community oriented people, but you still find solitarys here and there. We don't have religious texts so to speak but we do have what we call "lore" the lore are texts such as the icelandic sagas, the oetic edda etc. that tell tales of the Gods and heros and teach us lessons and virtues. We use the lore to teach us lessons to live by..but don't take them as actual truths. We celebrate 8 holidays throughout the year, on on each solstice, each equinox and 4 others. There is also a concept called Wyrd, or fate which we abide by, but it gets quite complicated. I hope this gave you all a little incite to asatru. If you want to know more let me know!!! I love to share!

Stuck,

There's not enough room on this board for me to answer your questions, nor do I have the energy to type out a volume or two!
