Synchronisity, signs and omens

Recently I have begun to realise that signs and omens have existed in the past warning me not to do certain things, but these things happened at a time when I no idea the universe was trying to tell me anything so I just went ahead and did them anyway. For instance I wanted a new car and I took the same car out for two separate test drives. On both occasions it ran out of fuel but I still went ahead and bought it and within weeks it was stolen and most probably stripped down for parts as to my knowledge it was never seen again.
Over the holidays we have again been looking for a new car. One particular one we liked wouldn't start because of a flat battery. This time I heeded the warning and didn't buy it. The thing is though with hindsight I can see the signs that have always been there. I am even reading a book at the moment that is about reaching your destiny by following the signs and omens in your life, although I hadn't realised that is what it was going to be about when I started it (how's that for synchronisity!) but now I am wondering how I know if something is a sign/omen or if is just a flat battery.
How do you recognise the signs/omens in your own life? If you miss one do you find another one appears until you take notice or it's too late? Do you ask for signs? Do you ever ignore them because you'd rather go ahead and do something anyway? Do you actively look for them?
I'd be interested to hear anyone elses experience, especially if you've started to take notice of sign/omens and what if so what difference it has made to your life and how you feel about it.

Hi Carol,
I'm interested in this book you're reading on signs and omens too, what's the name of it? I've been doing alot of reading about synchronicity too as I have the same problem distinguishing if a particular occurence is a sign/omen or not. Most of the time I can only tell in hindsight. Sometimes I get hunches and feelings but I don't trust them enough. Some people are more intuitive about these things than others. For many, me included, it takes practice and observation to get it right -- so it gets better with experience.

I'd be interested in that book too Carol!
Hi gnd and ginger.cookie, the book is "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. It says it's an Internatinal Bestseller so you have probably heard of it or even read it already. I've seen books by him before but this is the first one I've read although I've had it for some time. It is an interesting story with lots of little messages tucked away in it.
Another sign happened to me over the weekend. I went to buy a new pair of shoes and after spending ages choosing the ones I wanted I went to pay for them. No one was actually at the cash desk and I waited for ages whilst 3 members of staff who were close to the counter ignored me and continued with what they were doing without coming to serve me or getting anyone else to do it. In the end I left the shoes on the counter and walked out feeling rather miffed I can tell you. There is another branch of the same shop near to my home so I decided to go there the next day and get them instead but instead I found a pair in the sale I liked better and saved myself £20 (which is about $25 I think!) so I sure intend to look out for signs/omens like this in future ;)

Yeah, I have heard of The Alchemist, I've read mixed reviews for it. I'm so bored with TV and movies & I feel so behind in reading, I've been out of touch so I'm always seeking suggestions. Thanks for this info, I'll add it to my reading list.
I love when that happens ... you miss out on a sale only to find a better one, I've been getting really good at that. I say I owe my Deal Genie for these blessings. LOL

Hi Carol :)
<>
In many ways...I often *see* things in dreams, hear the same phrases over and over, hear songs that say the same thing as well. Sometimes, strange things will happen and at that moment I might just think "oh its nothing" but when it happens more than once...I pay better attention.
<>
Yes! (on both parts...LOL)
This isn't something recent either. These things have happened all my life and still I manage to miss some of them.
<>
I didn't used to. As I got older, I noticed these things more frequently and had stronger feelings associated with them, so I started thanking my angels and guides and asked them to send me signs when they thought I needed them. Poor them...I'm sure they are so tired of trying to get my attention sometimes! (ROTLF!)
<>
LOL...You bet I do! There are times when I get too big for my britches, nobody is perfect afterall (LOL)It doesn't always mean I'm wrong...most often it just takes longer to get to the end result. Learning a lesson is a valued gift too :)

I do try, but lets face it. Sometimes life gets in the way.
Not long ago, I had a dream of a friend of mine that I don't see all that often. (She is dh's cousins wife) In the dream, she was acting so strange, not at all herself and I inquired why she was acting that way (in the dream). A few nights later, I had another strange dream with her acting just as odd.
Then the next day, her s-i-l (who is my best friend) and I were going to lunch and I mentioned it to her, but it came out phrased like this "I had 2 of the strangest dreams about Gail. I think there's something wrong with her." She said she hadn't heard from her and if there was something wrong she would call. So I brushed it off.
That eve, soon as my friend got home she calls to tell me that Gail had called her and said that for the past few days she had been having chest pains and was feeling very strange.
She ended up being ok, but that is an example of the dream signs I recieve. When I talked to Gail later, she gave me a rundown of what had happened and it ended up being a condition I knew quite a bit about. Maybe that is why I was given small clues that she was ailing. Who knows???
V :)
Most of my signs also come through dreams and as I become more in tune with my spiritual side, the more they come. I'm glad your friend Gail is ok! I had a similar experience actually, and it's really taught me to pay attention because they come in all sorts of different forms.
I've had an issue which I've struggled with all of my life, and I found resolution through a dream, and I took it as a sign that my spirit guide was aware of my predicament and gave me some reassurance which I needed very badly. I finally found some peace regarding my issue. I also get signs regarding former lives, and they have been very helpful in dealing with this one.
I believe that after all these years, I'm out where I'm finally going with this life.

I think learning to recognize guidance from the Universe is a monumental task. It has to do with developing and learning to trust our intuition and inner wisdom, also. It's letting go of being ruled by "experts" or "externals" and going within, being sensitive to the world and energies swirling around us all the time. I found the two tools that help me the most are daily t'ai chi practice and/or sitting meditation. Both open me up, increase my awareness, "tune" me in. ;)) It takes a long time. I am 58 and still struggling with TRUSTING the signs and synchroncities and my inner voice of intuition. Our whole society poopoos doing this, trusting our own wisdom. It's hard to let go of that programming. Synchronicity is very important to me. It's like a confirmation process. If continual blockages in the forms of people, things, occurrences, whatever continue, it is a confirmation that I am going in the wrong direction. If things seem to fall in place, the people I need, are there or call or offer a book to read. Etc. It's learning to be sensitive the these subtle things. The big things seem to take care of themselves if you are awake and pay attention to the little things, moment by moment, day by day.

Hi. I'm from the Pagan Paths board and saw this invite over there. Looks like a great board.
My experience with synchronicity is that quite often I will think I see someone from my past but be mistaken. This may happen several times within a few days, then I WILL see that person.
The most recent example was that I went to my dd's graduation in my old hometown 1 hour away from where I live now. I thought I saw an old teacher of mine sitting near me. I kept looking to see so I could say hello. It wouldn't have been weird to see her since that's where I went to school. But it wasn't her. Then less than a week later, my son was having his pre-k graduation here in our town. That teacher walked in and we had a nice conversation. It turns out she had a nephew that attends the pre-k my son did. I would never have expected to see her in that town and the fact that I thought I saw her days earlier when I hadn't thought of her in years really struck me.
This happens to me over and over. I don't know how this might be useful to me unless it is just the cosmos trying to get my attention so that i will be more attentive to other signs.
