I had to say I never go, in that I don't attend or belong to a traditional type "church." I am a Solitary Wiccan. My "church" is all of Nature, and my altar on my mantle piece, with a symbol for the Goddess and the God, and the Five Elements and Directions. Sacred space is all around me and I can connect any time, any place. ;) I do formal ritual on occasion as well, in observance of the Sabbats.

I have gone to church less but hope to go more, maybe try another Unity too.
Our church has changed a lot of people, new music director etc.
and they were pushing the tithing a lot,
I was ready for a change, but I will return and I will love it again. I feel it is within me
so i don't need it as much, I like it for the social aspect also.
The sunrise is also my church. I have a new
hearing aide and I am happy with it, so I will be able to hear better when i go.
That adds to confidence being out there, as you know, Love, leila
I know this is kinda silly but I always wondered what it took to become a member of a church. I mean my husband and I participate regularly but it quite practice. We go just for ourselfs and recently started going back. So We have not began to socialize to much with the other church members. I think I would feel silly asking also! Thanks!!
at Unity we had to go to some classes and then there was a ceremony.
Love, Leila
Welcome, Alyson!
Thank you ladies for clearing that up I had a feeling it had something to do with that but I was not sure! And I will keep you posted! Thanks again!
( when i was regularly going) Love, Leila ps one can always say no.
Membership didn't bring me anything special.
My Unity church booted out the pastor last year and a bunch of angry people were left on both sides of the issues.
I agree, sacred spiritual practice can be anywhere we choose. ;) Although I am content on the solitary path, I understand the pleasures of belonging to a community, as well.
Enjoy your new hearing aid! I lost enough hearing yet again, that I had to get new aids last spring. It is wonderful to be able to hear more clearly again. :))

Tithing is a different thing with different churches, I think. Some stress the exact 10%, others just ask for what people can pledge. I always thought, now that I am on a solitary path, that mostly the money is needed because it's everyone's responsibility to support the buildings, utility bills, taxes, rent, what have you, along with whatever programs are being run. Somebody has to pay the bills. ;))
My husband's Episcopal church had a nasty split in the late 70s, and even a legal courtroom battle over the property. The congregation was split, friendships were split, families even were split. It was ugly. He won't go to church now or even think of joining a local church again because of the wounds inside. :-\ He didn't reject God, just the whole church structure and politics and so on. He had been "over scheduled" on a lot of committees as well as on the Vestry at the time. He says he has his life back and doesn't want to have to get into all that again, so he prefers to just keep God in his heart.
