past lives/reincarnation question

Why do various religions have such a problem with past lives and reincarnation? They preach about resurrection and the bible says how angels and god come to visit certain writers of the bible. People though say that they're believers but have such a hard time with the idea of a past life or a spiritual visitation from a loved one?

My mother and others in my family think I'm an absolute kook or I've gone to the devil and developed evil tendencies because I talk about a past life or my spirit guide. I just wondered about a church who promotes spirituality and faith cannot accept people who have obviously have had a previous life and they have such strong memories of it.

My spirit guide has made several visitations to me in dreams, and I just can't believe a church would call me evil because of believing in his existance when he's made himself totally known to me. Knowing that he's there has really helped me along in the last few months.

I just wondered why the church is so deadset against it? Especially considering all the stuff that's actually in the bible.

I'm going to prefece this with "THIS is MY opinion, based soley on MY experience" whew...k... with that out of the way here's my thoughts on that question.

Christianity (more-so than other religions) acknowledges the "Resurrection or Christ" because he is the child of their God. Many other religions (Pagan, Hindu, Buddhism, etc) that believe in reincarnation also give mortal man credit as being OF their respective God(s), not apart from them (read the story of the first Buddha). In Christianity, God, Jesus and The Holy Spirit are separate from mortal man, though we were created by God, we are not OF God we are OF the Earth-it's all in Genesis, and only one like God could be "reborn".

when I was RC, we were taught that we are NOT worthy of God, and must use only sanctified peoples of that church (Preists, Nuns, Saints) to communicate with Him. And in scripture, it is mentioned that the returning of the Messiah... which would be reincarnation... to bring in the new era. but only a God-like being could pull off being re-born. At least that's the answer I got when I asked the very same question of the Nun in school in 4th grade (which is why I got kicked out BTW-I questioned too much)

Because what's in the bible is "it is given to a man to live once, and then the judgement"

In addition to what Tavi said, I'll add that reincarnation was one of many ideas literally voted on at the Council of Nicea in (392?)AD.

Unity is a Christian church that has no problem with this concept.

Hi Sarah,
There is something that I have learned over the years and that is there are those you can share with and those you can't. And if you are going to share with those who aren't as open to learning about different things, then don't take offense to being called a kook. Churches and Religions were originally set up as the government and to control the people. Do you think they are going to be open to such things as spirit guides and past lives that may help you? Are you aware that there are some 45 books, written by Jesus that were left out of the Bible? These books show the people how they have the power to heal themselves and co-create with the Universe. The churches did not want that and unfortunately they haven't evolved much from there. I would suggest that you find a church that is open to what you believe and other groups that you can share your spirit guide with and about your past lives. I am trained in past life therapy and I don't speak much about it because people don't understand and I just trust that the Universe will send me the people who need it. Good luck, ask your spirit guide to direct you to those who are open and they will.

I don't know the details of when or where but like ginger cookie I've certainly heard that certain things were "voted off" as being part of scriptures one of them being the idea of reincarnation and that prior to that date there didn't appear to be a problem with this particular idea. My own opinion is that at least part of the reason this was considered a bad idea was that if we have more than one life then we have many chances to get it right, whereas if we believe that we only have this one off opportunity then it is easier to scare people into attending church and doing what the church tells them to for fear that they will annoy God and be eternally damned to hell. That is just my opinion though, I don't mean to offend anyone.

B, I'm aware of there being many other books left out of the current version of the Bible, but none
